Default AUII Central locking bug, open door from outside, car unlocks

Hi all, i asked this ques in the auto elec section a while back with no luck. Hoping some AU guru's might have some insight possibly for me.

I have an issue with my XR8's central locking. You can lock the car no worries, all doors are locked, but if you open the front passenger side door from the outside, it will open and unlock the whole car.
Everything else operates as normal and its only the passenger front that does it, this happened out of the blue, haven't taken the inside trims off in years.

Any ideas? I have read through a ton of other threads with central locking issues, but didn't find something like this

Hi. That door is not locking, sounds like an actuator fault. Normal for all doors to unlock if a door is opened. Cheers MD

yeah, broken gear possibly in the actuator?
there are 2x different sized gears used in the AU's too.
so you need to know which one you need if it has broken.
or just replace the complete actuator, or lock and actuator.

If it's this guy ... STRUT&ACTUATOR SHOP... I can highly recommend them.

I've bought two, the last was about two years ago, and never a problem. Great service as well.

Have same problem on 2003 fairmont. only right rear passanger door. I removed the striker, and found that the actuator has a gear with a worm drive on it that operates a sliding cam plate for the positioniong of the locked position that has sheared. Have to buy complete lock in South Africa. Can anyone help with obtaining only the gear. Seems crazy that a whole component needs to be canned for a nylon gear that has sheared. The lock is made by Nippon Automotive Components. Have searched for a web adress with no success. Can any one help.

yeah it's a common fault.
mazda used the exact same gears in some of their lock actuators too and now have them failing as well.

hey you go claude,
one of these sellers should be able to post one to you,

Series 1 with series 2 and up actuator will cause the door locks to cycle everytime a door is opened or the remote unlocks them But won't do so on locking

If that is the issue simply replace the actuator for a series 1 with the shorter cog and it will go back to working fine it's what I had to do to my au xr6 series 1

Finally got around to pulling the actuator out, and it was the cog being broken.
Can't confidently tell if its 5.1mm or 5.7mm, its a Series II Feb 2001, anyone know when the switch over happened ?
