Don't know why people are using phrases like 'scam' 'no insurance' and 'dodgy' for this activity.

You get to drive several high powered sports cars on the street and for many it will be the first and last time they will be behind the wheel of such cars.

As I said earlier, I did it and really loved every second of it. A real dream come true for the car nut within most of us.

http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11332571

Looking at the above thread I drove:

* Nissan GTR
* Ferrari 360
* Porsche 911 997 Cabriolet
* Aston Martin Vantage
* Lotus Elise
* Lamborghini Gallardo
* Porsche Boxter 987
* Ferrari F430

Had between 20 and 40 minutes in each car.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Sure the excess is very high, but when you have access to well over a million $ worth of motor cars then that's the cost you need to pay if you have a bingle.

You only live once fellas

It was never handed over. It was a hold on the credit card.

These people that are getting ripped off seem to be hiring cars from certain individuals where money (cash??) looks to change hands.

If fraud is done on a credit card it is almost always returned anyway.

It also seems that a reputable booking company was acting as the agent for this activity. You are dealing with the booking agent, not the company.

I very much doubt a company like Red Balloon or Adrenaline are in the business of ripping off people they book.

Fair Enough, Adrenaline are a big company now - too much to loose

I did one on the great ocean road about 5 years back. My wife got it through red balloon from memory, was about $350 with no bond or insurance excess that I can remember. Drove a Lamborghini Gallardo V10. Was awesome fun and the owner let me drive at my own pace, (I’ve had a few quick cars before and know time and place) so the owner was not intrusive at all and just let me get a feel for the car. Encouraged me to do a handful of pulls at full throttle and was fantastic fun. Would do again in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I don’t think that one operates anymore otherwise I would book myself in again.
However a 2k deposit and up to 15k excess I would steer away from. You would be crapping yourself the whole drive. Wise move.
