Well it's hard for the XR4 to impress you when you're living with XR5T

My thoughts on the Fiesta XR4, though i didnt drive it (need to learn manual) rode shotgun.

Exterior - White with Blue Stripes looks hot, 17inch rims really fill in the guards, ride height is not bad but a set of eibach wouldnt go astray. Has a very nice prescence that doesnt give off the boy racer stereotype.

Interior - No XR4 stitching on the seats, Seats are very comfy maybe not as much as Polo Gti, but still nicely holds you in firmly. Reat seat room is fine. Instrument cluster is looks hot, i think its silver compared to black in the WQ's. I would prefer the semi leather as to full leather (if it were an option).

Performance - Engine noise is to die for, very loud and aggressive. Exhaust note you cant really hear inside the car, outside its a nice rumble. 0 to 100 in second gear. A great free revving engine that likes to be heard. In saying that i would definitley remove the stock airbox (there is also a small resonater below the induction pipe) and source a CAI (K&N Apollo or BMC CDA) plus full stainless steel exhuast. Stock the XR4 is a rocket but i think with the above enhancements, it will be a real challenge for others on the road.

Handling - Canberra has its fair share of big round abouts so the XR4 was put through its paces. Stuck to the road, Perelli's seem very grippy, no squeels, no body roll. just a smooth comfortable ride.

Price - Base is $24990 so your looking at under $28000 with options/ORC, this is very competitive against the Polo (closest rival). I will be sussing out my local dealers for a good deal. but i will refuse anything above $27800.

Polo Vs Fiesta - XR4 for the win hands down. I love everything about it. But having a Polo GTI in the family, I believe it will out perform the XR4 in 1st gear possibly second unless you have a good launch. Once the XR4 does get going, make sure you clean up after your self... heheheh.

Just my 2cents. (if my second brother decides on a Cooper S, then all thre of us can swap cars on the weekend... best of three world i say...)

For a 5-yr old model, the Mk.6 Fiesta still looks good today. The car is obviously beyond its time.

i took one for a spin on saturday and loved it! i have been driving my XR5T alot this week and i can say that the XR4 is the goods. While not as smooth as the XR5 and i didnt like the feel of the manual trans, (just felt the same as the standard fiesta with a slightly shorter throw, didnt feel as solid as i was expecting? - everything else was killer! Lighter car than the XR5 obviously and you can really tell when you smack it into a corner at 60ks. Its great off the line too! Soon as the clutch drops your gone! 90ks in second was a relief, and the highway drive around penrith had be sitting below 2k in 5th at 120klm/hr

Suspension is too stiff for inner sydney roads, which are ***** anyway so not really the cars fault hey?

Went and had a look at mine today. It was only just unloaded from the truck when I got there. I'm not taking delivery till friday. Need to sort out my custom plates from my zetec.

bman the gearbox is the same as the rest of the fiesta range.

nope thats wrong! it is the same gearbox as in ib5 but in second you can hit 100 before the rev limiter kicks in.. trust me... 1st hand knowledge. the gear ratio's are different.

You are also wrong..... The XR4 shares the same gear box/ratios as the WQ Zetec Fiesta. But its is the same IB5 Gearbox. :

XR4 and WQ Zetec have identical gear ratios and the same gearbox. However, the final drive ratio in the Zetec is 4.06:1 and the XR4 is 3.82:1, hence the difference you noticed for in gear attainable speed. They also have the same rev limiter (6800rpm).

lol...well im going to be picky now!!! not compared to a WP zetec the ratio's arent the same :P

the ratio's are the same compared to the newer Fiesta but not the old. the older one has the same ratio's as the LX and ghia i think!

"IB5" is the type of gearbox used, just a different design to other gearbox's such as the LR focus MTX75 one, and all that jazz.....

Steffo are you sure that the limiter is at 6800rpm... cause the XR4 max's out at 8k(on the dial) why would they keep it so far down. im sure the limiter is at 7600...but what ever it is im sure that its not 6800...

i swear i saw the dail hit 7k as he hit 100......positive!

Yep, definitley 6800rpm. Where the dial goes is irrelevant. The Ferrari F430, for example, is limited to 8500rpm and has a 10,000rpm tacho. Means nothing, just there for show.

Sean if you wanna test what your rev limiter is at. Hold the trip computer reset down for 10seconds as you turn the car on, that will bring you into the test mode and you can cycle through and you the digital tacho.

Post your findings

I went into my local Ford Dealer up here in Brisbane yesterday, saleman strolls over straight away, I said to him "G'day mate, have you blokes got any XR4's in yet?"........to which he just gives me a long blank look, he obviously had no idea what I was talking about.

I then put him out of his misery and confusion and said "Fiesta XR4" thinking this might just be enough to get the cogs turning in his head?

He replies........."Oh Fiesta, yea we've got plenty of those" as he starts to escort me over to an LX 5 Door... :

What a joke........some of these dealers have absolutely no idea what they're even selling!!
