G'day All , I came across a Genuine Pair of 71 Mk1 Capri/Mk 2Cortina/XYGT Teardrop mirrors the other day & they had a Thicker base on them than the Usual XY bases ,
Just wondering if anyone could tell me which car Capri or Cortina used the Thicker bases or did they Both , Cheers Dave |

I know on the '72 Capri / XA-XC style mirror the Capri used the thinnest spacer available, but I wasn't aware the teardrop mirrors that came on Capris needed spacers.

IJG033 may be talking about the XW/XY series teardrop. I've seen these fitted to a few Capris.
The earlier Capri GTs had a very small teardrop mirror, approx 3" diam (or 75mm for metric youngsters...). These had no spacers underneath the base, just a rubber seal, and I have never seen them on any other Ford (which is why they are so rare). Always in body colour. The 72 Capri /XA-XC were also used on Cortinas (with approp. spacer) and Mk2 Escort (with approp. spacers). The purpose of the spacers was merely the make the generic Ford parts-bin mirror fit multiple things which had different door profiles and mounting angles. And I would agree with Cosworthfreak re Capri spacers for the latter Falcon mirrors being very thin (and fragile). |

Hey guy's , I have the Sales Brochures for All 3 Variants of the Mk1 Capri inc GT's inwhich I can see the Base but can't make out the size , I'll have to try it out on my Brothers capri ,
Anyway here is some scans of the 3 versions below , 1970 Capri GT, Small painted "Bullet" type mirror  1971 Capri GT , Tear Drop Mirror  1972 Capri GT , Plastic XA-XC type "GT" Mirror  Cheers Dave |

When a brought my Capri it had the vermillion fire version with no spacers the mirror was hard up against the chrome strip and has put a dent in it.

Yes Allan , need to know if anyone has the Correct Version to verify these ones against them , I gather they would be scarce ,
These spacers are more curved & deeper by twice the thickness of XYGT type spacers , Cheers Dave |
