Default My new black 2000 series2 AU XR8 sedan

Hi,

So for the past few weeks i have been looking at a car to replace my 2000 GU Patrol. I had been looking at AU Fairmonts, XR6's, BA Fairmonts and Fairlanes. But as you can tell by the heading, i ended up going with an XR8.

There was one here in Victoria, 1999 XR8 with low k's, black, very good condition, but didnt have the one thing i was after, a sunroof. So i spread my search, out to SA, and found this:

It is a 2000 series2 AU XR8, black, momo steering wheel, sunroof, premium sound, immaculate interior (not leather), lowered suspension, tinted windows, cat back exhaust and only 113 000ks on the clock. The body work is in great condition and it has a full service history too.

Now the only issue was it was in Adelaide, and im in Melbourne. So i did something my wife thinks im mad for doing, and thats buying a car sight unseen. So i left a deposit (refundable if it wasnt as described) and 4 days later (and one dodgy JetStar flight) and im in Adelaide at 7am.

The seller agreed to pick me up at the airport, which was a bonus, and in the car too. Peter (shiftyXR) was more than helpful with this sale. The car was as he described it to me, if not better. So an hour later and i was on my way back to Melbourne.

The car is incredible to drive, grunty 5 ltr burbling away. Economical on the freeway too. 600ks for 52ltrs. Thats not bad. Its not the fastest car around, but it sounds great, rides smooth and best of all, only cost $7300. Thats alot of car for the coin. Got it home last night and it got a RWC check done today and it passed with flying colours. So into my name on Monday and then the fiddling around with whatever im allowed to starts.

I only have a few pics since ive owned it, and a few from the carsales add.

So 800kms later, and im still a giddy little kid with a new toy. My wife thinks im nuts.

Deaks

Nice pickup mate, i'm currently in the same dilemma, theres a car for sale on here thats in Sydney, actually not too disimilar to yours, trying to work out best way to get it home to Melbourne,

1.Put on a truck
2.Fly up drive back (I hate flying)
3.Train up and fly back (10hr train trip doesnt sound to enticing)

4.??? Anyone want to drive a car down from Sydney for me
5.??? Any other ideas

Anyway, congrats, looks like a clean one.

Id damn near sell my soul for a Silhouette AU XR8. Series 1 is more my preference, but this is a nice score.

Daniel, i wouldnt recommend the train, been there and it was painful. If flying isnt your thing, then maybe see if they will drop the car off at a transport depo.

Going on a cruise this weekend for a friends birthday, I really want to take the XR8, but the wife wants to take the ZD Fairlane. Poor Fairlane will get neglected for the next few weeks.

Nearly 12 months on since I bought my S3 XR8, I still rather drive that around than my XY GT, which I hardly bother driving anymore.
The XR is just sooo good to drive still. Its not that the XY is crap to drive, its not, but the XR just does it all.
And does it in a more modern, comfy, package, with unique outside looks that stand out from the rest, plus it still has an old school sounding engine and plenty of old school type quirks and feel etc..

I could go the rest of my days not wanting for another old school car while I own my XR8, as it just ticks all the boxes and then sum for new and old school..

I did exactly what you are considering.
I bought the T1 TE50 sight unseen except from the pics on car sales. I asked the dealer for better pics of specific areas which they were only too happy to do, and apart from a mates business partner having a look at it whilst he was in Sydney, i bought it on his recommendation (for a steal!)
Caught the train from Melbourne on a Tuesday night & arrived before the yard opened up, checked the car out & signed the papers.
Whilst i was doing the paperwork, they took it round the back & gave it a quick wash & detail, put in a new battery & when i drove off it had 3/4's of a tank of fuel.
The 900k drive home was a great opportunity to bond & get used to it.
I would do it again tomorrow.

Oh yeah!
Great pick up & looks great.
I really like the twin tips.

Great pickup Deaks. Looks great! I too bought mine sight unseen from photos on the net. Car was almost perfect - don't regret for a minute put the money on the line first - I even had the coin in the dealer's account before even seeing it!

Great car. Looking forward to following your progress. Any immediate plans for it?

Well done

The only immediate plans are driving it. I think death may come calling if i spend any money on this car, as the Fairlane has cost a few thousand this year already.

But if i find the right wheels, she who must be obeyed might be convinced to let me buy them. Im thinking black with a chrome lip. Some FR19's would be nice.

Other than that, just a few cosmetic changes are needed.

Enjoy! I love the silohette(?) black! Wheels on it look good, but wheel choice is a personalisation. Good luck with that! Again, nice pickup.

A lot of car for the money there. A good exhaust and intake, lowered with some nice wheels and you'll have a hell of a nice car.

So the XR is finally in my name with a few hiccups along the way.

I gave her a good wash on Sunday, not sure why i bothered as it rained later that day, but she looked nice a clean for a few hours. Had to change the exhaust as it was ridiculously loud (i liked it but i cbf with getting it tested every time someone doesnt like it).

Went for a drive to the Island with the wife and a few friends a took a few photos of the XR8:

Well i wouldnt call her a drag weapon of choice, but it will break traction when provoked. Although i am comparing it to my BA XR6T which had 290rwkws.

When i got it, it had a twin system on it (which was bloody loud tbh), but due to it needing a RWC, i had the mufflers swapped over for quieter ones that actually make the car a lot more responsive down low. Still no drag weapon, but a bit better.
