Default escort L.S.D or cig locker?

anyone successfully welded up a diff on a mk2 escort and happy with it? I am thinking about welding up mine (circuit car only) but have heard it will induce understeer, l.s.d's are so expensive & my car just want's to fry the tyres out of every corner at the track, so this just seems like the logical (cheap) compromise. Any thought's or advise appreciated...

Depends on what diff you have,if its the standard front loader yeh weld it up,yes you will get more under steer into a corner ,play around with tyres presures and softer front spring can sort that out.

Ive got a early ford courier diff going in my car either My RS or a new escort(havent decided) ,as the ratios are 3.9-4.3 depending on the model and an LSD centre is available.they are unbreakable in an escort and they are 5mm wider than the escort housing ,springs bolt straight up to the mounts.A bit heavier though,not as weighty as the cutdown falcon diff people use though.

Mate and I welded up the diff in his Mark 2 Esky a while ago, was unreakable and heaps of fun too! Only problem we had was that is tramped quite alot if you took off hard because the springs were quite soft and you want to make sure your bushes are good or else you will get movement through them when you corner. LSD would be ideal but might be too much trouble.
