Default Annoying Emails from “Speedmaster”

Who else gets these?

I don't recall buying anything off them in recent history (or maybe ever?), but for a number of months now, regular “What shipped this week” promotional emails are hitting my inbox.

Well, a chap from Broader Performance, an American small business building trans brakes for drag use C4 & C6 boxes, has put out a 20 minute video stating he’s been pirated by Speedmaster and showing a product that imitates his. He’s not really ranting, just talking about what’s happening. “It’s about just having a job, and a place in society” (~7:30) - simple words that so poignantly highlight how greed is unpicking these foundations of civility.

Summit Racing was unknowingly dragged into the fray, apparently unaware some parts they were selling from this company were complete forgeries (they reacted very quickly to acknowledge the issue and suspend sales of these items).

If you're getting random emails from a place you've never bought from before someone you've bought from in the past, their e-commerce platform was probably compromised and they've sold everyone's details to the highest bidder.

No one cares about IT infrastructure and cyber security in Australia, until their business gets targeted and data compromised, then suddenly people care about IT infrastructure and the spend required. Thats why Australian businesses keep getting targeted by foreign organised crime groups online because they know we're clowns.

Happens in plenty of industries.

We used to make a product for one of our customers. It's required to be registered by the TGA and made in a factory that's TGA-certified (ie. one like ours). This customer hadn't purchased from us in over a decade, but suddenly out of the blue needed a copy of our certification for export market compliance purposes.

I refused to provide it. I suspected this guy was making the product either in an unlicensed factory, or in his own garage. Eventually, his export customer contacted us directly, so I told them I hadn't made anything for this guy for over a decade. Likely caused him no end of problems, but IDGAF.

Honestly, the audacity of people....

Even the US Air Force has been sucked in by the Chinese sub-standard counterfeit parts industry:

I have been receiving the Speed Master promo emails for at least 5 or 6 years. Never knew this mob existed until the emails began landing about every two weeks.

I have never subscribed to these emails. When I first queried who this mob is, I was advised they are the reborn Pro Comp. Again, never purchased anything from Pro Comp, either.

Pro Comp had already bitten the dust in 2014 when I convinced myself it would be a great idea to build up some Clevelands.

But it says in the box high quality machinery parts……

Absolutely hilarious, instead of an elastomer bond and balance weight,
Chinese supplier just cut two O-ring grooves into a solid pulley, LOL, LOL……

Are Sydney speed supplies, at racing, pro comp, speed master all the same company or do they just have the same Chinese suppliers?

Good question.
I asked chatgpt because i couldnt find an obvious connection, other than selling garbage:

"Some of the brands under the Speedmaster umbrella include Procomp Electronics, TSP (Top Street Performance), PCE (Procomp Electronics), and Assault Racing Products."

But i was sure theyd all be tied in, so did an abn lookup:

So hopefully the summit saga tanks all of this junk.
But it wont because people are cheapskates.
