I stopped by a VW dealer on the way home yesterday arvo for I spotted a Golf R.
Salesmen boasting its a Grid Edition blahblah but something I'm considering.
2017 manual in good nick with 49thou k's asking $40k.
One owner mainly hwy use.
It is near on what I'm after and 90% its just me in it BUT my 2 main criteria's are :
now and then 14yr old daughter and friend for weekend sport
Must fit golf clubs good enough.
On both those counts it obviously doesn't pass with flying colours but you can live with it right, i30N will have similar restraint but you can near on get in a 2019 N or easily 2018 with 7yr WTY that also covers track use !
Sure the depreciation won't compare to the Golf but thats not my concern.

@ stig 3754 - funnily when I mentioned to the salesmen of the i30N P - he couldn't counter but agree its a bloody great Hatch/Coupe.
My test drive I very impressed how it went, the tech is brilliant as mentioned.
I'd like the Coupe style.

I love the golf R's and any review has basically read that if you want a hot hatch but one that's got comfort and performance - albeit surpassed by the RS and STI given theyre not awd, the R is the way to go. Your criteria is much like mine - if it fits the sticks and can put 1-2 people in the rear. Manual R is hard to find. I have no interest in DSG

You should have no problems getting into a 2018 or 2019 N for $40K. Agree the Fastback has grown on me since it was released. Either way it is impressive for the price you pay and the noise it makes, even in normal mode is great.

I bought a new Cerato in 2015 and had it for 3 years - good car no complaints **my only dislike was a bit gutless that (I didn't really notice on test drive but did a little day to day if on the highway (overtaking) but plodding town in peak hour as a daily 100% fit for purpose.

For those who've been in a Stinger how big is the back seat?

My Falcon took my two Greyhounds ok, but hatches no chance.

Is it reasonably spacious, say Mondeo size, or more Focus (which I've tried in a mates....no chance of fitting)

It’s a big car. Definitely up there with falcon and VF commodore. Not quite as spacious in the back compared to those.
In saying that probably more mondeo size in the rear. Or even between mondeo and commodore.

Ok great. Thank you for info as a previous poster said felt like a sardine in it etc.

That should be fine and I'm becoming more interested as I investigate more into them. I'd much prefer a wagon but options are just so limited.

Definitely go have a look. Probably feels more closed in with the smaller windows and sloping roof line.

The hatchback element makes for a massive boot, no good for putting dogs in the back though.
But if the dogs are happy in the backseat why not.

Wagon option which is rare.

Worst car I've ever driven. Completely terrible.
The engine is nice until it it goes bang.
Overall it has **** build quality. I had one and loved it but also it was the worst car I've owned.

Ok excellent.

Yeah dogs fine with back seat but I couldn't with children so needed a wagon. Now no child I have a spare back seat but it needs to be pretty big - thanks again.

Not sure on year. About 2016 I reckon.

It was ok I guess, but just imo feels cheap inside compared to our family cars (Lexus and VW) - I might be being too harsh but doesn't have that top quality feel to me. (neither does a Mustang btw albeit cool cars)

Regardless it certainly wouldn't embarass Falcons over a shorter distance anyway.

Golf Rs are quick but not that fast.

I know its Off topic slightly but I've just signed a contract on a brand new Santa Fe Highlander for wifey and whilst there (and stock controller was going through Colours/availability with her to make a choice) I got to talking with my salesman about the I30N and he talked me in to taking one for a test drive (was actually the Coupe Version) for something to do while we waited and it was a bloody hoot. My SS would own it in a straight line but we took it on some nice driving roads and it impressed the hell out of me in the corners, I had a blast...

Apparently the DCT (Auto) version is VERY close to being here...

Had a BA XR6T a while back. I would probably "consider" swapping the FPV GT for a Kia Stinger (like the XR6T, it would use a little less petrol and still be enjoyable).

I owned a BA T for a decade - cost me a bit over the journey sure, but don't regret at all. I bought for just 21 second hand 4 years after new (had sunroof, leather)

Fantastic value at the time. Drove the Xr8 but the T was a much better balanced and faster car. FPV might be a bit better.

I actually can't afford a Stinger just yet. But yeah I'm with you on the appeal especially the warranty etc

I could potentially see myself in a Stinger GT though I'm still very much a manual guy so that would be a big change.

KIA have made massive strides from where they started. Just like Hyundai.

I've always been manual until the R36 DSG.

I love manuals for one off but the DSG is awesome.

Extremely quick shifts and doesn't override like most.

Not sure on Stingers - my Dad's Audi was 100K and the gearbox was rubbish. Constantly would change if too high or low revs, even more annoyingly it went back to Auto mode if manual not used.................my DSG acts exactly like a manual.

It's also much better than the ZF. That's pretty good if a tad slow, DSG different league.

Default Re: KIA - Would you buy one?

Not a fan of any autos mate.

While I am able, I will always prefer manuals since they are on the way out soon. Plenty enough time for autos later

My mates Golf R DSG is amazing but I would still get a manual version if I bought one.
