Default Cars You Would Love to Drive

If given the chance, what cars would you love to drive someday?

I have been lucky to drive a number of cars, and yes I have a list, but there are still some that I would jump at the chance to drive but not necessarily own. You will notice my list lacks uber expensive supercars, I just don’t get excited by them.

-Having driven a variety of Falcon’s, I have never driven a Turbo Barra. I have sampled the last three generations of the Inline Six, and driven Windsor, Modular and Miami based V8’s. The Turbo has eluded me. One day.

-BMW E46 M3. Most probably the best inline 6 ever made. I just love the induction note of these engines. The balance of power, weight and dynamics made this a high point for BMW. The CSL with the carbon airbox is even better.

-Aston Martin DB9. For so long, this was my dream car, the looks, the noise, the image. One of the best styled cars of all time. Owning one would likely test my patience.

-Porsche 911 GT3, any of them but probably the 997.2. I don’t really have an ambition to own one but I would love to drive a Porsche, the screaming atmo flat 6 in the GT3’s being the ultimate expression of the brand.

-Mazda MX-5. The lack of power would probably prevent me from falling in love with it but I would like to find out why these are so highly regarded.

Would love to hear what others would have on their “dream drive” lists.

An un-altered ’67 DS, love the smell of hot LHS. Flogging it on a sort of “Cannonball Run” from around Pretoria to Port Elizabeth, thence CT and inland through the guts of Namibia to somewhere like Walvis Bay.

I saw a car show about 2 years back, some little blonde hottie car journalist at Monaco driving around in one, yes, beautiful car.

For me though, always wanted to drive an E type.

I have moved an F40 around the workshop not on road.

But a Le mans era GT40 race car would be my dream drive.

Hey DFB in Vic PM after Covid and you can drive my F6

Cool choices DFB, MX5 lacking power I agree with but my bro inlaw had the first version and loaned it for a weekend to me and young wife way back then for a south coast dirty weekend
The twisty coastal roads I know to use was great fun ! go kart as expected but lacked the punch down straights but was a fun experience as well as the nights lol.....

Porsche GT's I'd love a track weekend with, anything RSR more so.

God where to stop, maybe we should have price brackets?

In normal people world, yes agreed the E46 M3, but would love to ring the neck out of the new GT350.

If price is no object, a right hand drive 993 Porsche by Singer.

And a Bentley Continental for the days when changjng gears is all too much.

I don't consider the upcoming 2021-22 M5 Competition CS uber expensive. I like front engined, rwd (or awd) powerful sedans. For me, this will be The Ultimate Driving Machine.

I'd like to go back to the beginning. Brass era Model T.
Theres something so engaging and pure about these for me. Crank starting and adjusting by hand things like advance/ retard. Having to plan every move a few steps before they happen.
..and then there the sound of the horn

Then why are you playing with a Territory? Its all relative.

Again could go on for ever, but yes a Gen1/2 Viper is my dream ride, or a Shelby Daytona.

The Territory is a project car, my daily ride is a 2018 Ranger or the wife's 2018 Everest.

Only a fool with part with 50% tax to the ATO due to CGT on their investment. 25% CGT is bad enough.

When I was 17 (18?) and a Ford fan already for years, I had a school friend who had moved out of home. His housemate was an older guy who just happened to own an XY GT (True Blue and manual). We got on well when I visited and out of the blue he showed up one night at my folks place (I still lived at home) asking if I wanted to drive out to Regency Park to pick up a fishpond of all things.
I got dressed (I was in bed in my jammyjams already ) and jumped in. Had a bloody ball because man he drove it hard.
So we get there and carry this fishpond, got it into the boot and then he threw me the keys.
I almost said No. He was a guy in his late 30s and I was a teenager and I think still on my P's and this car is worth a lot more than my Datsun.
So yeah I got to drive home and once the nerves settled I still drove like my grandparents haha.... but I'll never forget it and I was so stoked this guy who really didnt know me gave me that opportunity.
A few years later I learnt he traded the car for a decked out F-series something or other and was travelling Aust.
