The new Camry is a nice bit of kit in sports trim, easily the best looking model to date, whereas the current Commodore regardless of spec level is a big step backwards compared to its predecessor.

I can't believe i'm saying it but i'd probably agree. The new Camry looks ok imo. Probably not as good dynamically as the ZB, but with nothing better than an NA V6 you'd never want to flog the thing anyway.

423 ZB Commodores sold in March 2019 compared to 516 sold during March 2018.

Time to euthanize the brand.

Actually they only sold 406 ZB’s as the other 17 which made the number 423 were VF 2’s.

The new car sales are dropping but Holden's sales are dropping faster than the overall market. Not a viable position.

The Corvette sounds like a great way for GM to introduce Chevrolet to the Australian market...

GM don’t have any more RHD to sell here as any brand.

That’s just one car, what else do they have that could form a RHD Chevy range in Australia? Nothing.

The Corvette service tools are going to be $20,000+ usd and the car will be $20,000 to $50,000 overpriced in Aust. I don't think it will save them

The Equinox is already a Chevrolet overseas, so that would be another model and so is the Trax, it too is sold as a Chevrolet and is sold in RHD. They could rebadge the Trailblazer and Colorado as a Chevrolet, as that's what they're sold as in other markets and the Camaro and Silverado are converted over here in Melbourne by Walkinshaw.

So I guess you'd have Camaro, Corvette, Trax, Equinox, Trailblazer, Colorado and Silverado. The new Blazer could replace the Equinox if they put that into RHD and then there is also the new Blazer XL, which is yet to surface, but could replace the Acadia as Holden's 7 seat SUV offering.

Mainstream passenger car wise, they've got nothing, unless Chevrolet in China start pumping out RHD cars?

For the sales numbers that Chinese Taurus gets, they coulda just sold it here as a Falcon replacement, it would probably do no worse sales wise than ZB Commodore but alas, no RHD engineering because we don’t matter, our sales footprint is just too small to justify our own vehicles

Meanwhile Holden threw away roughly 2,000 sales a month putting local manufacturing under a bus, didn’t see that one coming....

It will be $100K plus here, still a bargin for those wanting something between Muscle and supercar.
but after an initial sales burst it would be lucky to sell 3 a month..
I doubt the sales would pay for the RHD engineering
its no Savior for Holden

They could have sold 5000 a month... still would have shut down. Not profitable at those numbers to keep the factory open. Pretty sure you know that anyway.

For ANY auto maker to make a profit(globally) they have to produce @ least 100,000 units annually. The “big three” here could not do that combined. There in lies the problem.

its a bit more complex than that, but yes, you need volume. its not just the manufacturer. its suppliers as well. even if holden could turn a profit at half those numbers, there wasn't enough demand for the suppliers with only 1 or 2 manufacturers here to keep them profitable.

we got an extra 10 years out of our auto industry than what could've happened.

I don't think anyone actually believes the Corvette is some sort of Saviour for Holden, for many reasons (price, projected sales) but mostly because its not going to be sold here or badged as a Holden.

The Holden brand, for new car sales at least, became useless when they stopped making car's here... GM needs to get rid of the name and sell car's here as Chevrolet (for normal stuff) and Cadillac (Luxury stuff). They could keep the same dealers, etc just rebrand them to be in line with the USA. THis is, if course, assuming that GM even wants a long term presence in Australia...

I reckon keep the Holden badge, play to the strengths of the US parent (US muscle/SUVs/Trucks). Falling AUD may work against this but at this stage they might as well MAGA - it has some aspirational cache here.

If you overlook the FWD engine layout, the Tennessee-built Acadia is pretty much a Territory in pricing, functionality and a % of the ride/handling skill.
