I'm no Euro fanboy, though I did own an E38 735iL affectionately nicknamed 'Adolf' - it crapped out it's timing chain guides at 130,000km.

Oh well, at least the timing chain lasted twice as long as a BOSS 5.4

The Euro depreciation is a myth depending on how you look at it. People who focus on depreciation of Euro cars are likely never in the financial position for it to effect them.

If you want truely horrible Euro depreciation wait until they give the green light to grey imports out of Asia and the UK where the most basic of Euro crap comes flooding in. Cheapening the marques and really driving down prices across the board.

Urban areas definitely, and well served with aftermarket parts to the quality of one’s choice.

That said, some of the most phenomenally wrong automotive repair and diagnosis chatter I’ve read on the internet revolved around the SMG equipped E46s. Ignorant kidults parroting nonsense.

Hah, well that chatter has persuaded me to steer well clear of the E60 M5, as much as I'd like one (hero car when I was a teen etc). Whether true or not I'm sure it has saved me thousands.
I have owned several BMWs and attended social/club events & read forums. The majority of owners come across as text book mechanics to a point where it is nearly embarrassing. Know it all but struggle to change oil and spin a filter, while insisting the sump plug washer has to be changed and they have to run full synthetic oil in their 1970s derived M20 powered E30.

We still get raped on parts.
I quoted a set of lead for my Mercedes 560SEL. $450+
rockauto.com have them 120usd plus $20 shipping. Last time I ordered from there it was on a Wednesday and they had arrived on the following Monday. Can't complain with that.
I realise those who don't have the means to work on their own gear has to swallow that pill of excessive parts pricing etc, but I guess that is part of the experience.
