Default T series question

Gday guys, the other day my mate said he would buy a manual series 2 TS50 if I agreed to swap my car with his after he bought it!

He currently drives a skyline.

He was told that the TS that he was looking at was the 5.6 litre. He also said it had the same bodykit as mine. T3 Style.

Did the Series 2 TS get the bigger bodykit or the 5.6? I was sure they didnt but he was convinced he has seen the bodykit but the guy selling said it was a series 2. He is able to get it for $26,000.

I would be seriously tempted to swap if it was the series 3 and manual!

Did the Series 2 TS get the bigger bodykit or the 5.6? nope. Series 2 had the same bodykit as the series 1, only with silver highlights. Also has just the 5 litre 220kw afaik.

Yeah thats what I thought! Thanks guys! Silly Nissan Owners!

He told me he had seen the car and it had the same bodykit as mine and he was told it had the 5.6 by the owner, the owner also told him it was a series 2. I think the owner might be telling porkies! Unless my mate hasnt actually seen the car and is just assuming there is only 1 series of TE' and TS's.

Would you guys swap mine for T3 if you had the option?

Wanna swap? :dr_Evil:

hehe, I thought as much. I would swap in a heartbeat as well!

It would be a lot slower but that can be fixed! They are by far my favourite ford.

The T3 has that "made special and exclusive" factor that no XR can ever have. Truth is that, given enough time and money any number of XR6's could go and look like yours Dan. The T3 can be copied but never duplicated.

Still, if you do have to drive a measly XR like the majority of us, you certainly have one of the very very best.

If you don't get a chance to drive it.. the other way to tell the difference between the 5.0 and 5.6 is to look under the bonnet. The engine looks very different to each other.

This is the 5.0 (200kW/220kW)

This is the 5.6 (250kW)

The easiest way to tell the difference between the 200kW and the 220kW is to look at the front side of the throttle body. The 220kW has the Tickford wings on it. The 200kW doesn't.

Ahh, thanks for the pics!

It would be interesting if he put the T3 kit on. Im not sure if I would go for a series 2 as a swap though. My mate is dead keen to do it. Im not so sure. Maybe after I get it to the track a T series might be nice.

I spose a manual 220 would still be fun to drive. The V8 sound would be awesome as well!

But not much can beat the rush of 300rwkw pushing you in the back and sideways down the road :P

If ya lived near my joint Id take ya for a thrash in my T3 & see if that 300 rwkw is as good as it seems. A friend has an XR6T with stage3 APS kit on it, He still loves the T3s instant power no waiting around for things to happen Its just there...
Must admit the turbo does get going though.......

Its not that far, Ill be waiting out the front of my place at 7pm tonight for that ride.

Ive been in a few fairly modded V8's, my old 351 XF would keep up with a 235kw gen 3. The instant torque is nice but in my car its not a long wait before it sees boost. My old car had lag issues.

The lag in this one is hardly noticable especially if Im already moving. I can stall it up and see boost from a standstill but thats a bit useless on street tyres on the road, but then again its the same if I floor it doing 80 :

I would still love a T3 though! My next car will likely be a V8 and manual when this one goes. All cars have their benefits over others.

I think Russel W had a T1 or T2 with a 5.6 under the bonnet but I think it was done by herrods.

It was actually a 5.7. No.. not a Oil's 'R' Us Gen III, but a very torquey stroked Windsor.. 540 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm!

Read more about it here.

Russ, if you read this... please let us know what the TE was like, and how it was after the build?

That's the car I very nearly bought. By the time my finance was approved, the missus decided she would rather spend it on an extension (to the house!). 0-100 in 6.x secs....lovely!

Yeah.. I remember when it was for sale and the drool that was on my keyboard. Nice bit of machinery that.

ps: That article says #20 of 54. Not correct... should be #20 of 104. 54 was TS50.

Damn straight!

The story gets better now, the guy who owns it sounds like a clown. Its a genuine "TL50" now, my mate was sure to verify the name of the car. : My mate isnt ford orientated but did make sure to ask. It was converted to a 5 speed and is a series 2 and is a 5.6 cos it goes through fuel like nothing else :P

My mate is a mechanic and said he could barely contain himself when making his enquires, Ill think Ill give that one a miss. :

Oh and did I mention I ran an 11.8 :

haha Im still excited! Cant wait till next saturday.

Hmm.. sounds like it's been modified quite a bit. Because series 2 TL50 was auto only, and 5.0 220kW. Not 5.6.
