hi, i have just bought a 79 4door rs2000 its red and the plan was to do the rebuild that it needs but with the help of a friend we discovered that the paint code......c....... actually says the car was originally midnight blue. i have never seen one of these in person before.
MY QUESTION, ARE THEY RARE IN THIS COLOUR AND HOW MANY MIDNIGHT BLUE 4 DOOR RS,s, WERE MADE FOR AUSTRALIA?????? help very much appreciated |

I don't think there are many around. The only colours I have seen are White, Red, Orange and Yellow. Midnight Blue probably wasn't "cool" in the late 70's early 90's!!
I think there was just over 2000 4 doors built in Australia?? No idea how many of each colour though. Congrats on the purchase. You'll love it!! |

There was also black, I used to own a factory Onyx black RS2000. There was also another black one in the RS Owner's Club at the same time.
I've seen a few midnight blue cars around over the years. Get a sample of the colour, and see if you like it. Have you tried contacting the RS Owners Club??? |

Midnight was a special order colour - at the almighty premium cost of $100 LOL. There were a few built that I know of but as for exact numbers I'd only hazard a guess and say probably less than 20 cars total.

Midnight Blue was a standard colour, along with Monza red, Burnt Orange, Pine N Lime and Sno white. A small batch of Onyx Black and Silver RS2000s were produced for Ford Executives (I used to own a silver 2dr) There was also one produced in Heritage Red. Out of all the standard colours, Midnight would be the rarest. I know of about 5 in Melbourne.

The only standard colours for the RS2000s were red, yellow and white. The rest were all special orders. You could choose any colour from the Ford range of vehicles at the time as long as you paid the $100 extra.

i wonder if there is a way to find out exact numbers of colours produced for australia, surely there are stats hiding somehwere??
im in tassie , i have never seen a midnight blue rs here before. |

I own a 1980 Midnight blue 4 door RS2000 which I bought purely for parts, I found that they are pretty rare especially because not many four doors were made in Australia.
It's a pretty sweet colour and will look truly ford! |

Just adding to the list, my 2 door RS2000 is paint code C; it is an 8/80 build.
Unfortunately it is not standard, fortunately it is powered by Cosworth. |

80 model 4dr Midnight Blue - 3rd owner.
When I restored her in 97 the gun man reconed 1980 was the only year 'C' code Midnight Blue did not have metal flake. To get the correct colour was not easy, being so heavy with primary colour the paint worked out at $300 per litre, thats was over $2k just for the paint 10 years ago.... $100 special order - that's about a $600 option in todays $, compared to the cost 17 years later it was a bargin ....... $300 per litre omg, thats ridiculous, as far as i can see it would be a straight colour and if i was to pay that much i think i might just stick with the red. hehehe, anyway when it sees the road again it will be nice either way. cant wait for that day to arrive.

I own a Midnight Blue 2 Door RS2000 and would be very keen to see some stats on how many were made aswell.

All my paperworks suggests Midnight Blue was a standard colour, but I reckon Ford being Ford would have throw an extra $100 on the bill for the dark colour....extra coat maybe. They are charging me an extra $310 on my new XR4 Fiesta for going Black. Deleted those stupid racing strips to recover that little fee. If I wanted to "pimp my ride" I'd buy a clapped out Commodore instead.
