Before you spend a cent, talk to your rego authorities about technical requirements (e.g. brake upgrades). Rules have changed recently in some states about putting V8s into Capris.

I'd recommend talking to an automotive engineer briefly to discuss your ideas as a first step, just to check what will be required for engineering certification.

You may need a chassis strengthening kit from Castlemaine Rod Shop, plus some other bits: http://www.rodshop.com.au/ford/capri.htm

Also brakes will need to be improved. There are a few options, but Hopper Stoppers do a pretty good kit:http://www.hoppers.com.au/complete%2.../page_023.html

A stonger set of V6 Capri front springs would also be good depending on the weight of the v8/gearbox, and you'll need to check the shape of the sump won't interfere with the front crossmember.

I don't think anyone does a kit for this engine into a Capri, so I'm guessing there'll be some customising to get it all in place.

Cheers
Jamie

im not too worried about being compliant for road use,as im not planning on having it rego'd,more of a show/drag but at the same time i dont want it looking rediculously modified

it can be done,
have seen a twin turbo one pushing big numbers buts its more of a drag car.. ( im pretty sure its street registered?)

what makes you want to go down the japanese v8 route?
just putting the idea out here.. but have you considered a xr6 turbo engine? would be just as impressive as a 1uzfe, but even quicker!!

but you should have no problems with the conversion as it is only a 4L,
basically go see a engineer, and he will give you a checklist of everything that needs to be done..
and then post up a build thread

I think those toyota motors are pretty wide, that might make things difficult. Also as it's not a common conversion it could get expensive with all the custom fabrication required.

V12, now we're talkin!!! Whatever you decide, you should try and work out all the costs beforehand as best you can, so that the project will actually make it to completion. The actual engine might only be a fraction of the total cost.

V12 sounds fun..lol
Ive decided to do the usual 302/351 conversion as most of the parts can be bought "off the shelf" and i want to get it done before the rules change.I spoke to an engineer and said the rules havent changed yet regarding registering a v8 capri but it isnt too far away.
Just have to decide on Clevo or Windsor and to keep it manual or change to auto..

thanks for all the different suggestions
will start a project thread soon

I'm no expert but the Windsor motors have a smaller 'v' angle so they are narrower and make fitting and working on them easier.

Yep, go Windsor....aka classic Perana from Basil Green in Suid Afrique!!
Parts are still cheaps, and more importantly, readily available.

Done my own costing for next 'everything' project. Now reconsidering viability Vs possible end value (and thats without labour costs). OMG !!!

End value is in the eye of the beholder, if it's for you, it doesn't really matter what it's 'worth' if your not going to sell it. I know what your saying though, you add up the dollars and then start thinking if it's really such a good idea.

These days I'm not so one eyed about my Capri's. Years at TAFE seeing other things under restoration helps to broaden your horizons and exposes some interesting possibilities....and then you know you have a problem , Houston.
The problem is straight forward....not enough space for my shopping list !!
