Default 302 into TE cortina

Hey,

I have a 302 windsor lying around and a TE cortina with a 4 cylinder, 5 spd manual. I am wanting to fit the 302, but can anybody tell me what needs to be done to get it to fit? Do they drop straight in? also what gearbox and diff do you guys recommend?

I got a TE Corty with 302W C9 auto.
I run Castlemaine rod shop engine mounts and extractors. C9 Auto and a Borg warner Diff. Runs 13.6@101mph. It is a stockish engine.
The original car was 6cyl auto.

adrian selemeyer also did a conversion kit

bronco type sump and pickup are needed
you can even by headers already made to fit

If its just going to be something for fun at the drags I would use an engine plate at the front instead of mounts. Be more solid and give you more room for extractors. If the engine doesnt have huge horsepower a decent C9/4/10 and a minispooled Borg Warner would be a good cheap setup

Watch the 4cyl firewall,apparently they are different to the 6cyls and may give clearance issues with the V8.

Also, put the biggest brakes you can afford on the TE, extra insurance

The guru who started V8 Cortina conversions back in the early mid 80's (hmmm showing my age) was Bob Pinnell who was at Berowra back then. Used to supply kits and was very prominent around the drags at that time. Not much he didn't know about stuffing a Clevo or Windsor into a Cortina. Might be worth seeing if he is still around.

He's probably still around but I doubt his business is.

The swap is so common that it shouldn't be too hard to get good info.

Definitely look at the Castlemine Rod Shop, they have all the bits and pieces to do the swap including brakes. I would recommend them as I have used their bits for a Clevo into Capri with no hassles. Some though have had issues, but I wouldn't stress.

If you go Windsor, the swap is very easy, go for it!

When I built my Capri with a Cleveland in the early nineties Bob Pinell was still doing kits, but only very quiet. Doubt he is still doing them now. I used a CRS kit, brakes were great, the chassis kit was a fair bit of mucking around as a couple of the holes didnt line up correctly and they sent me the wrong sump. Ended up sending them mine to modify as they swore the one they sent was a Clevo one- it was the right shape but wouldnt get within about an inch and a half of the block?

CRS must have got their act together a bit since I used their chassis kit for my Clevo Capri and all was sweet, went right together no fuss. Their sump was pretty good, though lacking enough Baffling in my opinion.

The Pinnel kits were ok, though I had to use the CRS kit for WA registration as the authorities insisted I install the chassis kit.

Rego was the reason I went CRS kit too, at least the sumps were rear pickup something in their favour
