[QUOTE=ford71V8;5115124]What is the red car in Pic 10?
Shape looks familiar but can't put my finger on it

Same as the one they used in Max Max I believe.

It's a 59-60 Impala 4 door hardtop. There was 4 door sports sedan as well that had a squarer rear "fly away" roof profile and full wrap around rear window.

There is a rare XB Falcon 500, sitting in a back yard less than 300 meters from my house, its a weird car ordered by a farmer I assume, 351, column shift auto, bench seat, vinyl floor, GT Suspension including factory Detroit locker and tramp rods, vented GS /GT bonnet, standard dash….he will do it up one day, been sitting there for years deteriorating….
It's "good" these cars are out there, I'd hate to think how many decent "future classics" were crushed for scrap.
But its such a shame to see them rotting away for want of some plastic.
And its annoying when people would rather let them rot than sell for a reasonable price. Their car, their choice, but still.

The crushed 'future classics' is the whole reason why they are collectable today.
Without tens of thousands of them being scrapped over the years they never would have become sort after.

I could still be wrong it’s wouldn't be the first time.
From the small amount you can see in the photo I based my guess on the fact I used to own a ’59 Impala.
I didn’t think to mention there are 2 door pillarless and 4 door versions as I thought most would know that.
Being in my 70’s I forget not everyone was around in the day to witness or remember the things that appear so clear in my mind.
I only wish I could remember what I did this morning.

problem is how to determine what is a reasonable price? Rather than be ripped off just don't bother is easier.

Granted that applies to general cars, as in any car from the 50's or 60's is a classic and rare because most have been scrapped. My point was just that there would have been a few hardtops, GT's, and other "rarer" models in there too.

A guy at works dad has a shed full of goodies just sitting there. Reckon there's 4 or 5 caddies and god knows how many old Harley bits. Said the other day he reckons there's a Harley from the 20s somewhere stashed down the back in bits.
I've never had the pleasure of seeing it in person. Just photos from his phone.
Reckons his old man tells him stories of when he was young there was a pile of old metal just stacked up in the street for scrap...bikes in amongst them.
Some man riding an old Harley and having trouble with it and his old man was walking by and the bloke was cursing at this old bike and he ended up buying it off him for absolutely bugger all. Wheeled it home and just shoved it in the shed.
The guy I work with says he was looking on eBay for old Harley parts and was looking at some patrol tanks that were twin tanks or split ( im not up to speed with bikes) tanks....they went for stupid money on the bay in the states. Next time he popped in to see the old man he went out to the shed and found six and a half pairs.
There's still stuff out there. Tucked away in country barns and sheds.

I generally take the view that an owner is entitled to ask whatever they want, just as I am entitled to laugh hysterically and move on.
However the problem comes when a "genuine" vendor wants to price their car, looks on gumtree at all the delusional crap that never sells, and prices his accordingly.
I had a deal lined up; I approached a lady about a car that had been sitting at her house for YEARS (apparently it was her late dads wannabe project.) I was happy with the price she suggested $2k, she was happy to be rid of it and have some cash. Then her numnuts son looks on gumtree and convinces mum the cars worth $4k and I'm ripping her off. I tried to negotiate, but she was so worried I was trying to rip her off that she got quite upset.
So up goes a sign for $4k, then $3k, then $2.5, and the car is still there.

I have a capri shell on my front yard. Every opportunist drops in hoping I assume that I will just let them take it off my hands. I usually spend a while trying to determine how genuine they are, do they know what the costs of a restoration are, are they capable or knowledgeable about this car, do they really know what a rust-free english GT is worth and how unobtainable certain items are... or do you just want to put it up on ebay and make a few quick bucks?

there is a difference between a barn find and a flogged out heap of **** that is overpriced with limited chance if any to see the highway again yet the owner in his /her mind thinks it is a gem , unfortunately that is the way the world turns these days as we are all greedy and live in an overpriced society.one could only wish that with the limited resources in the old car market nowdays maybe just maybe one could see that the main aim is to preserve history by helping out with the supply of parts or cars to others is shows future generations what great things the old cars /bike were

There is a Landau sitting in a carport behind a four wheel drive not far from where I live, same old story though "One day I'll restore it" At least it's out of the rain. I have also spotted an old Bolwell with slicks and a roll cage, looks like an ex sports sedan, he also won't sell.

What offers are we talking about? If you tell your mates on the way up ''I`ll offer him $1500 for it'' chances are he would`ve seen you coming from a mile away. In fact I bet half these old timers dont even want us on their property, unless you`re a genuine car enthusiast keen on a History lesson. Most couldnt hide a collection of 30 or so vintage cars, unlike stamps or teaspoons, so take into consideration they have had hundreds of randoms pass through with all kinds of offers and bullshit stories. Dont forget they mite have a grandkid or two.

Went for a drive this morning and saw this guy, nice, bloke, has about 15 projects on the go, has a few XB's and a heap of XA's all sitting in a paddock, as well as other cars.

Ended up buying a XB GS V8 manual ute off him, plenty of rust but not as rusty as the rest of the cars he had there, can definitely be saved, but will need a lot of work.

Plus he is letting me strip out a XB GS Fairmont he has there for a reasonable price, for door trims, complete dash, back seat (have front ones) and heaps of bits and pieces, wiring loom, tail lights etc, all these parts will go towards my XB GS Fairmont project and will save me a heap of time and money collecting parts, his prices seem fair and reasonable, but a lot of his stuff is beyond help and rusting into the ground.

No photos but will see about getting some.

I would occasionally see an XB John Goss Special, Green & White driving around local streets. It was in pretty rough condition, the left front guard mostly in Grey primer.

Last sighting was around 2 years ago. I hope it is undergoing a resto.

That reminds me of this old lady driving around in a rough rusty XC Cobra, about 10-15 years ago around Greystanes in Sydney,

I about the late 90's this old guy at Villawood in western Sydney was driving around in a manual XW GT, rough as guts, he was an old Italian guy, offered to buy it back in the day and he was not interested in selling it.

Wonder what happened to these cars.

There's an old lady that would be in her 80s' that lives somewhere up the road west of us, on a farm, that chugs on by about twice a week in an original straight, rust free survivor green XA falcon 500 3 spd manual. The only non original parts are the hub caps that look to be from an XP.

Growing up in the 70's, a classmate's Dad drove an XM or XP wagon. He always told us this unlikely story of how his dad bought a new car, didn't like it, and locked it in his shed...

Sure enough, in the early 80's, when we all got our licences, he turns up in an XA Falcon as mint as if it just rolled out of the factory.

I know it's not a FORD , but 5 years ago I spotted a Chocky brown Leyland P 76 Targa Florio in a drive in Castlemaine , now in Castlemaine for a long weekend break and that P76 is still there . It's sad to see these classic Aussie cars rotting away. Im sure there must be some emotional attachment to these cars as the owners can't see the logic in selling them to enthusiasts with the Money to restore them.
