As someone else mentioned, the old Top Gear will remain just with a new name, format and network (those 3 will be picked up by someone).
And the new Top Gear will just be a bonus for car enthusiasts. I'll watch it without the expectation of it having to be as good or better than the last one, but rather as a new car show altogether. I only watched it for the cars anyway (I wouldn't watch Clarkson, Hammond and May test boats, trains or tractors). |

The chemistry between the three was what made the show.
That's why all the other Tog Gear spin offs like Top Gear Australia are just so bloody painful to watch, even when they have copied the formula exactly right down to the set design and having a Stig. It's one of those things where you simply cannot cut and paste three new presenters in, ask them to act like the original three, and expect results. Doesn't work. Should probably work...but it just doesn't. Star Trek is a different matter...Next Generation was 70 years later from the original series, so of course it was a new crew. The new movies, same charachters, and of course they had to be younger, but they seem to be doing a good job so far. Doctor Who is a special case...the first "regenration" of The Doctor was driven by necessity...poor old William Hartnell was beginning to lose his faculties, his memory was going, and he knew it. They knew, however, they had a hit TV series on their hands, so were forced to do something to replace him, but "not replace him" if you know what I mean. So they came up with regeneration, which neatly meant they could keep the show going while actors came and went. Now only if we could regenerate Clarkson... |

New top gear will ultimately be like the international top gear spinoffs. Same format, strained chemistry. Time will tell whether people warm to the new crew.... spinoffs suggest its far from certain.

^ Yes, the black one James May drove around in a while back. He also has a Ferrari collection all repainted in White.

That's where they went wrong. The formula works with those people. Other shows, or new presenters, need their own formula. |

Don't forget, Top Gear has lost its executive producer Andy Wilman. He and Clarkson were the genius behind the revamped Top Gear formula, and now both of them are gone. Wilman has also hinted that he is sticking by Jeremy like Hammond and May are doing, so the genius that made the show great will be appearing somewhere else soon (as indicated by the Clarkson, Hammond and May live shows).

I find it amusing that people are comparing show with 3 real presenters, being themselves in presenting a "factual" (using the term loosely here) show and saying it will still work the same with 3 new presenters because it worked with Dr Who and Star Trek, who, especially in the case of Dr Who, are fictional characters, played by different actors..

Evans needs an air tight 3-5 year contract, 6 months (12 months tops) before the new TG implodes.

No, you miss understood. Its better this way than have to deal with falling ratings. There is a point that you over-milk the cow, and it starts giving less milk. There is a time when the popular fades into unpopular. It may not have been now, it may not have been in 2 years, but I reckon in 5 youd see a different picture. Plus CHM aren't getting any younger. Esp clarkson.

The latest girl is much better them lot, but she looks a bit weird at times and a bit of clash with the age of the Doctor and her I put it down too, the young ones have hang ups nowadays and it shows. The Doctor needs a more mature bird on his arm, something with some class for crying out loud. |

The new Top Gear will fail, as it is the presenters that make the show. I'll be waiting for their new show Hours of Cars to air
