Default 04 Fiesta

G'day folks,
During the stupid fuel prices of late last year I bought a 2 door 04 or 05 Fiesta. I'm really happy with the car, it's a reasonably solid drive, happy with the handling, braking, it's comfortable enough for a big person in a small car and I love the 550-600km to a tank of fuel.

What I'm not loving is the performance. I'm a reasonably big unit, 120kg, 6'6 tall and I'm disgruntled. The shine of small fuel bills is being dulled by the slow performance.

What can I do to improve performance, without seriously affecting my fuel bill, and without making it sound like a rice burner? Wouldn't want to spend any more than a grand, as it's just not worth it. Any suggestions? Ideally another 10% poke would be awesome. Just not sure what's going to give me the best bang for my buck.

Buy a 2L engine

Main issue with the 1.6 unit is that the stanard ecu can not be reflashed even with a dreamscience. Having said that it is a very good engine

Have a look at some of the things i have done to mine. Its all written in my signature, im happy with the performance improvements. The BMC CDA, and the leads and sparks really loosened it up, if you dont wanna go the cost of a BMC CDA look into a pod filter set up. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11245943 There are some really good ideas in that thread for induction ideas.

To be blunt, you won't get 10% improvement for $1,000.

An exhaust with more free flowing mufflers, a new K&N air filter and a fill of fully synthetic engine oil will both free up some kilowatts while also assisting your fuel economy (the oil will help immensely)

Running it on 98RON fuel will also make a difference too.

All that for about $1,000.
