An American take on Ford Australia's history................



Plenty of factual mistakes, but its so nice to hear some love for the local Ford outpost.

Also nice to hear the significance of the Barra and our unique Coyote V8 variant, the Miami.

Have to laugh at the final comments -

"..............especially with what happened with Holden as well, with them absolutely a.s-fu.king dealers, owners and workers............."

I think that's a very important difference between how GM and Ford handled their transitions from car maker to car retailer. The way GM "a.s-fu.ked" the Australian market is shameful, especially with spare parts and aftersales support. Anyone foolish to buy a Holden after the shutdown was (and still is) completely shafted by GM.

you know rare spares has the molds/presses for both holden/ford..

Drove past the Geelong factory the other day and someone has graffitt'd over the blanked 'Ford' signs. Guess it's their turf now.

Pelligra bought both sites for redevelopment; the graffiti crapshow is part and parcel.

Great vid btw. Yes it's sad when you lose it and lose the cool cars.

The Bathurst part was very good. Yes, we had muscle that had to be able to turn.

Lol its not that bad - Yeah the dealers got shafted but as an owner you can still take you car to Holden to get serviced with acces to the GM network for recalls etc. , they have most parts or can put them on back order still for VF/WN's ..I've only experienced accessory stuff being no longer available anymore e.g. VF ute hard lid bits and pieces

How long this will last will be the question but this is not unlike Ford AU no longer supplying some FG and FPV parts though...

The bigger difference to me on how GMH vs Ford AU transitioned from local manufacturing is at least Ford offered Mustang as the only car that has shared DNA with the Falcon for sale locally to soften the blow whereas GMH promised to bring some of the GM stable over but never delivered beyond small numbers of the Camaro and Vette from GMSV at exorbitant markups

The Cadillac CTSV and the monster CT5-V Blackwing would've been the natural successors to the SS or HSV's with the shared running gear but GM were intent in pulling out of all RHD markets worldwide so we got a kick in the balls instead..

The other thing was GM could've maybe sought to sell the brand off like they did with Vauxhall instead of burying it and salting the earth afterwards...

I enjoyed it tbh, even with the misinformation.
Good to see FoAs best engine got a good wrap, yes it only has 6 cylinders and a turbo

To be honest I thought he did pretty well considering he was a Yank, yes there were a couple of clunkers like the Falcon having a V6 option and the pronunciation of Geelong, yep I enjoyed it too.

Agree 100% with your last statement. V8s are everywhere but I6s are special
