Default Wide Open Road Series

Is anyone watching this? ABC 7.30pm on Sundays.

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/wideopenroad/

Very interesting series on the history of Australian Automotive industry.

Sorry if it is a repost.

Cheers

Watching it now on iview.

Disappointed about the comment about Australian Six though, saying that with a big six cylinder motor it was the ancestor to the commodore.

The six had a straight 6!

Shouldn't that mean it would be the ancestor to the falcon...big straight six...not a wimpy 3.something v6...

*sigh*

The Commodore all the way from the original VB in 1978 up to the VL in 1987 had a straight 6 in some form as an engine of choice

Looks to be a good series so far, not as lightweight as I'd feared. The melb to syd racing in the early days was very interesting - sub10hours on those roads in those cars - that's impressive!

Watched it, cracker of a show! Hilarious regarding the cyclist who after cycling around Australia decided to then drive around Australia! What were they thinking in some of those old bangers. Beautiful cars mind you.

Next week should be good though, I'd imagine the PH III would be in the spotlight being the king of Aussie Muscle.

By the end of the show Dad wanted to buy back his EH haha!

Absoulutley top show just like the surfing history show the same company made
That Francis Bilby must have been quite a crazy guy, round Aussie 8 times on a bike then changed to cars in the 1920s

I started a thread on this in the Entertainment section. I called the ABC shop and booked a copy of the series to buy. Seems like next week will be a ripper!

Yeah I wasn't too impressed with that statement either.
Had they have said it was the grandaddy to the Australian 6 cylinder car in general would have been a bit closer to the mark.

Also with old matey having a whine about Lew Bandt and the ute, "Oh Holden were just months away from making these too"...

Big deal, the best ute got built first, and that's how history remembers it.

And the straight 6 has been in the Falcon since 1960.

Just a tad longer than 9 years...

Totally agree, I did enjoy the show, but some of the pro Holden coments made me laugh. Lets see if the Monaro and Toranas were the gratest muscle cars ever made in next weeks show.

I started a thread on this a couple of days ago.
Me and my car will be on in week 3.
Had a great time filming and the interviewer was none other than Nick Carrol, Toms brother. Nick did the Bombora surf show.
When I met him at the airport he only had a jumper on, a pair of jeans and thongs, very casual. He introduced himself as Nick and I said " You've really got the Tom Carrol look going mate", He said "Thats my brother" Doh.

I really enjoyed the show and I thought it had been well researched.
