Yeah I was thinking that too...the metal would heat up more...and obviously heat the air inside.

But the difference must be marginal...is there any serious difference between the metal version and the rubber/plastic setup?

The other night i made a new mod for my intake.

The old backfire and blow the intake in half trick!

Can anyone tell me an easy way to join it back together again? Or are these cheap?

i'd suggest 2 hose clamps and some 3" piping or similar.

It is on gas. Couldnt get it started, then BOOM.

Bonnet was open, the whole metal curve and the flexible part flew to the front of the engine bay.

It was a VERY loud BANG!

its because of the backfiring...i think you should try something else...cos those plastic pipes heat up and get very thinned out...it might blow from another spot if u just repair it...try to use hard plastics...

That big fan surely is restricting airflow into your intake! :

Dave wants one too :

I got it, thanks Rymers, InitialD and oneredED. Go team! I used 1" of it to make this air intake!! :P It sorta spawned the idea for this intake.

I've got a box to go on it, I just have to paint it and fit it properly.

I used an Air Knife to cut the hole in the guard, came up beautiful... now I just have to NEON it!

Lol at the backfire intake mod! No such worries here... yay for petrol only engines.

I've found the intake awesome. Fuel economy has decreased, but thats probably due to the excessive revving at the lights (its an awesome sound, really) than the intake itself.

those of you on gas copping backfires, why dont you drill some holes in your airbox lid then tape them up from the outside with black duct tape, then when it backfires it will blow out the tape and not your intake, i did this to my mates ef and had no worries after that.
just a suggestion anyway....

Do you find a bit of trouble freezing the mixer over in winter, yours is in the same position as my wifes ex ED and the problem was rectified when they moved it down lower.

Love the cougar lol

i just got a pipe made today, mandrel with slight bend for airbox, to get rid of that stupid restricted el one. The ends needed to be widened to fit in the rubber parts better, and i acquired an au tseries snorkel last week.
