Default 619m or 711m

I have a 1600 xl capri built in early 71, and I am wondering if they came with the 691m or 711m block. Cant seem to find much information on this.
Just saw typo in title, d'oh!

Parts book says 711M, but being early '71 I guess it's possible they fitted a 691 (depends how early yours was built).

Ive got the ford spare parts book and it says 711m, my capri is dated 3/71 build, the block is 691M 6015BA and the engine number stamped on the block above the oil pressure gauge fitting matches the the build plate and owners manual. Im thinking it might be original, there are no grinding marks on the block where the number is stamped so it doesnt look like it has been re stamped, the numbers are on the raw casting surface. Also is this the correct place for the engine numbers ?

The engine number was stamped on a horizontal machined section of the block, which is essentially a small ledge (level with the top surface of the block). If the top of the engine block ever gets machined (as it does in most proper rebuilds), the original number can be machined off also.

I have read this on the web, mine has no numbers there and the previous owner who had the car for the last 43 years said that the engine had been rebuilt so the numbers were machined off. Can someone post a picture of what the stamped numbers are supposed to look like, I can't find a picture of it.

If you are keen to recover the number, try calling someone who does non destructive testing (industrial xray, magnaflux etc). They may have one or two things they could try.
