is it the same auto as a 2002 AU3 XR8? my XR8 spat the auto 1 week after buying it (came with auto service history too) local place had on one on the shelf $1500 fitted with reco converter but ever since it whined like a taxi and was still a slug at low speeds
thats the only reason i don't like auto's i think the AU 220kw was too peaky and needed a manual where as my AU1 XR8 auto drove fine it just wasn't very quick.

deposit paid and pickup next saturday, its big, loud, angry, comfortable and smooth on the road.
i have read that the 5 speeds 1st is long but i didn't even need 1st gear in this one i only get to about 20kmh before i need second, maybe its got 4.11's?

its got low km's and better bodywork and trim than the other XR8
s and XR6t's i looked at, just did a history check and its all good, i just can't wait to go and pick it up now.

i did test drive an XR6t with 280rwkw and the works and hated it, it was a pig below 4000rpm, it sounded ***** but it went really well above 4000rpm
took it on the freeway and at 110kmh i had to change to 3rd to overtake
didn't suit my driving style at all
the GT suits my driving style even if its an overweight barge and the noise it makes puts a smile on my face

it was cheap and its in better condition than every other car i looked at,
i still want an FG/FH XR6t auto in 2-3 years time to be the daily driver but i'll keep the BA

Wow man that must have been one shocker of a BA turbo, normally it all happens before 4000rpm and is pretty much well and done not much over 4000rpm. 2200-4000rpm should be major torque rush.

Don't get me wrong I loved my Ba it's just that being the first one out everything underneath is garbage compared to later models. The gearbox upgrade alone in the mk2 is worth paying extra. I just hope the constant maintenance doesn't eat into your FH budget.

That Turbo probably had a rubbish tune in it, that's all. Probably why he was trying to flog it.

well the engine problems were fixed with a recall it makes no noise on start up at all, the 5 speed is great really must of had diff gears done to 3.9 or 4.1 i'll have to investigate, plus i can get a T56 for $1500 and its a direct bolt in later on. springs are soft but for $250 i can get HD superlows for it, brakes are new, toyo tyres are new, no diff whine but the centre diff bush needs doing it was replaced not long ago but you can make it clunck if you try hard enough.
its a very low build number so its is one of the first off the line but i won't hold that against it

As long as your happy with it mate. I do like the colour, Ba's definitely had some of the best colours. Worth doing the 6 speed conversion, the gearboxes are night and day.

Nothing wrong with the Mk1 GTP. Mine has been a beauty. I still love driving it, even after going through 3 xr6t's. (stock and modified)
And the 5 speed is fine if you know how to treat it right and don't put heaps of power through it. Mine is stock and I have no issues with it.

picked it up and drove it home and i love it
its a the only Narooma Blue (NR) BA FPV ever made and its number 0009.
i love the colour its sort of like shockwave but has a purple tinge
it has an issue though with the factory alarm, i parked it to get fuel and got in drove off and the hazzards were flashing, stopped the car and tried a few things and they turned off then when i got home they went on again. left it open and came out later and opened the door and alarm went off and wouldn't turn off, car starts fine and alarm turned off after a bit. might have to play with the auto settings of the alarm or take it to ford to see if its got a problem.
anyway apart from that its great and 40km of driving after getting fuel i'm at 12.2l/100km which is ok.

Massive score getting a 1/1 colour, the 5 speeds aren't as bad as some would make out and the BA is still a great looking GT model.

Good find, that is one nice car. I have always wondered what the one and only Narooma blue GT would look like, always thought it was a great colour in the BA XR's but even better on the GT. I reckon shonkymofo could be right about the battery but check the battery terminals for corrosion and that the alarm loom connection is not loose. Let us know when you find the cause of the problem
