I can stay with most cars to 80kph now but after that the auto and the lack of cubes start to take its toll.

to do that properly (remember, it will need an engineers certificate to be fully legit) cost big bucks. Cheaper to just get more power.

You only need an engineers if the model never came with that particular mod you want to do.

you sure about that? Compliance plate will say its an auto.

We had to get an engineering certificate for the 7 seat conversion in the wagon even though Ford had a factory 7 seat setup for the EF too.

Im not postive but when I was going through all the hassle of changing my XF from a 6 cyl manual to a 351 auto if I had a pre 82 XE it would not have needed an engineers as that model came with a 351 as an option. I chose to stick with the XF after looking endlessly for a decent XE. I was told that by a few machanics and Vicroads. As long as it was an option at the factory then it is a legal mod.

I doubt so many people would do the manual conversion if it wasnt legal.

Well, thats certainly good news to me if thats the case. I'll look at it again one day if it doesnt need a cert.

As for people not doing it if its not legal..... I am yet to see a single E Series or AU "Factory" turbo :hihi:

Under "Research Your Car" I can't find my model. There's Fairmont '98 & '00 or if I punch in Falcon '99 it brings up the Falcon S / TE/TS50 / Classic but no '99 Fairmont. So I looked at the '00 Fairmont AUII and I've got almost every one of those options (with the other models I have more than the standard/options) So do I go by what's written for the AUII?? Arrgghhhhh!!! Am I looking in the wrong place maybe?

I first did it with a digital camera and posted it up.Stockstandard broke it down to 7 seconds. But do it safely.I suggest a nice long stretch of freeway where you cannot break the speed limit and no one is around.

Slightly off topic:

Here's the info on the seating...

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf...e/vsi%2019.pdf

There might be something in here re the gearbox mods.

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/vsi%208.pdf

I think the main drama they(insurance companies included) have with g/box mods is when people cut up their cars to get the gearbox in. If there's no modification necessary to put the manual in then there should be no prob.

I'm guessing this is the case as a few insurance companies I've spoke to have mentioned this as a gripe and they usually work off road and traffic rules for a starting point on whether they take on certain mods.

Thanks loxxr6. I am pretty happy with 7.1 seconds as I guess it would have been nearer to 9 seconds flat when stock and honestly although the engine has a lot more power it doesn't feel that quick. As everyone says a 2.39:1 first gear and torque converter and wagon with 1650kg all conspire to slow your take off a lot.

It will be interesting to see what improvements I can make to these times with a 3.45 diff ratio and a unichip. I think the unichip is next then the diff. I would love to get flat15's but I guess that might be hard to do.

How far away is the Unichip mod ? That'll be a mixed benefit between performance and bettering your air/fuel mix which you mentioned....

Unichip is another pay day away mid feb!

I know my full throttle mixtures are 13.4 so i am expecting more driveability gains to be honest than outright speed but its my daily driver so thats fine.

I will probably go to Spiro and you can be sure i will post up the before and after dyno sheets.

i didn't post up the mdx dyno that only gave me 120rwkw though !

The 3.45 diff is just really to put it on a level with all the XR6's, Fairlanes and VCT's etc. I am hauling some weight so i need to run at least as low a diff as any of the stock performance fords before I can expect it to get going off the line.

When I went onto the Westgate Freeway after having the Unichip installed at JMM, I could really feel the difference going to 100. I'll get a new figure soon. I am guessing by your feedback I'll only better it by 0.3 seconds. It gained 22rwkw.

I would be inetersted to get someone else to run their car using my G-Tech, just to see if the results are consistent. May have to tee that up with someone locally.

If that's from the calculator on the web site, then all the people calculating 0-100 based on that need to add 0.something to their times. 60 mph is 96 km/h, not 100 km/h. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but that extra 4km/h may take a few tenths to reach (especially if a gear change is involved).
