They had the XR badge in Europe long before it was used on a Falcon. XR2, XR3, XR4 etc etc.

Yea, remember them well.......XR2 Fiesta, XR3 Escort, XR4 Sierra, as mentioned by crispymk2, just change the badge to the ST one....."good thinking there".....I'm sure a lot of Suzi Sport owners will be doing exactly that and getting their beloved "GTi" badge back in pride and place on their new babies.

there is a whole tread in the PUB/BAR on the new mondeo, Iosis and all that jazz. i highly doubt that the mondeo will be released here in AUS considering the competition of the focus price wise and size wise. that and how badly they sold when they where out here in AUS. complete disaster. also the Fez ST wont be badged as ST like said b4 cause of the Previously Poor sales figures for the ST170, ford dont particuraly want to revisit that era.

The Fez XR4 im not so sure on. ford have previously canned it and we all got our hopes up last time as well.
I highly Doubt that it will be released in AUS, it may bee released as the MK7 model but deffinately not as the MK6. and if it was then it would be the Most stupidest move ford have ever done in regards to the Fez....

Too much hype.....

i've been informed by people inside ford that the Mondeo will be here next year. I like the new model but the back reminds me of a Renault Laguna...

I think the mondeo will do well.

It will provide ford with a nice stepping stone from the small to large car segment (with everything in between)

Fiesta seems to be hitting it off well in the small car market, getting good reviews and selling well... I keep seeing more and more on the road. Thank christ only like 3-4 in colorado red.

Im actually very surprised how popular the new focus is, i thought it was a little bit too large but you see soo many on the road now.

I think its only logical for ford to launch that next step up... to provide something between the focus and the falcon.

The mondeo will be a hit ! After all, how many damn Mazda 6's do you see !!!

i agree with you mitch in regards to how the Focus and Fiesta are selling. i see heaps on the road.

i have to disagree though on the mondeo, there are alot of Mazda 6's but thats mazda's large car, and the 3 is the meduim. ford alrealdy have a small medium and large car setup. the mondeo may sell well, but i doubt it. i personally dont see a point to having 2 medium cars, you basically undermining your own product. i will agree that haveing variety is a good thing, but 2 much variety is a bit wierd. ppl like to have simple choices. having said that i do believe the Mondeo to be a great car, even though i think it will take a share of the Focus sales if introduced.

and i dont expect it to sell as well as every one hopes.

also lets not forget what the Mondeo would be priced at over here. In the UK its the luxury model. the mondeo is basically the Uk's version of a large car. (sedan style e.g. Falcon) it will most probably be priced high, and i doubt that it will be able to constest with the Mazda 6 on features for price.

heck Ford may very well indeed bring the Mondeo out in AUS, but i doubt it will be a big HIT!

If the mondeo did come out it would fill a gap between the Focus(31g for ghia) and Falcon (35g for XT). So there is room for a model just. And going with the current price structure a base mondeo would fit between a focus zetec and ghia.

I don't see a need for it. The mondeo is a slightly larger focus with the same engines, and im in opinion that stops people moving to the focus is the bogan mentality of "I need enough torque to pull out tree stumps and FWD is the devils work". The Focus sedan is more than big enough for 99% of families.

It might work but IMO they should bring out the s-max to have a people mover in the range.

Yea, there was too, designed and built in Oz if my memory is correct, all a bit of a disaster though from what I recall, big quality issues, bad sales, leaky soft tops etc, basically a soft top Laser....... the XR2 badge was used in Europe on the sports model Fiesta.

I see where photn and pieoter are going with the Falcon as being Ford's large car. But that's because people that purchase Falcons, want RWD or have families. Most are fleet company cars too...

Then look at this;
Mazda2 = Fiesta = Jazz = Barina
Mazda3 = Focus = Civic = Viva/Astra
Mazda6 = Mondeo = Accord (Euro) = Vectra (well, it did...)

you can't say the Focus competes with the Mazda6... it clearly doesn't!

Can't see an equivalent spec Mondeo being priced within a cooee of that price!

The 6 also has unbelievable handling for the price. The first version out cornered a BMW 330Ci coupe in the Wheels Active Safety Program- and that was only the Classic version fitted with 16" wheels! The Luxury comes with 17" wheels and wider tyres. The current update model is even better going by the reviews.
In NZ the base model Mondeo comes with all that and more for slightly less money.

Wrong Wrong Wrong

The Mondeo is not the UK's version of a large car, it is a medium sized car always has been always will be. It is an evolution of the Sierra, which in turn succeeded the Cortina. Ford UK's large car was the Granada/Scorpio, just because they no longer exist doesn't make the Mondeo a large car. Also there is no way in hell its a luxury model either.

There is no reason why the Mondeo can't compete with the Mazda 6, it does alright in NZ (8th most popular car in 2005 in all classes) and its at the end of its model life, so like the BF Falcon its on the backfoot.

Personally I would be quite happy should Ford AU not take the new Mondeo, just means more for us, and if they end up looking like that wagon that was recently revealed were going to need all we can get.

As for the Fiesta ST, I think its great and would seriously condsider one for the mrs should we get them.

MAGPIE take a look at the EuroNCAP classification becuase the Mondeo is a Large family car. Its there version of a large car because cars in europe are overall smaller. A falcon by comparison is huge. People here buy a falcon, in the UK people buy a mondeo.

If it works in NZ has a good chance of working here.

Murcod - The mondeo has everything you mentioned and comes standard with cruise control. And can be done for same price.

Ok its just different words....

But generally in AU/NZ the cars are classed as the following

Supermini = Fiesta
Small = Focus
Medium = Mondeo (Large in Europe)
Large = Falcon (Executive in Europe)

At the end of the day the Mondeo is not a large car it is a medium, just like a Mazda 6 is, and a Accord Euro and a..... need I go on

But for people to say the Mazda 6 is a large car because it is their largest model, so that makes a Mazda 3 a medium size car is just ridculous :

Judging where the XR5T is positioned probly right with the $24,990 maybe up to 27,990 couldnt see it working much above that...

The Mondeo needs to come here to give people another option, you just cant force people to buy a Falcon even if it IS superior for their needs. Why do people buy Camrys even though they now use the same fuel as a Falcon? Perceived economy and value.

No one need worry about the Falcon because its about to be superceded and the key to it's future is exports. This thing could go everywhere.

Fiesta XR4 Must begin at $24K. At this price they will sell like hotcakes. Theyre quicker than the Polo GTi, and much better than that rubbish Swift.

I would be interested to drive one of the swifts actually. To see how they compare to the polo gti (or dont compare at all)

I think they would be bag loads of fun as a little weekend thrash around car.

I dont mind the Swift's exterior styling, but they should have improved on the interior and power figures. But my mind is set on the XR4 atm, but my brother is presering me to get a polo gti now after i didnt insist him to get one, which he is quite esstatic about.

Just curious can some one post up figures between ST vs Polo
