Servo take offs.... a few local servos i know of have prepaid now... you pay BEFORE you fill up. Its crap! And, also... they close the furthest tanks late at night.... so they can monitor you!

Well.... my car has a key lock.... so ill just live with that.....

Its 125.5 at the servo down the road here in Canberra. Relatively cheap compared to Sydney. If they all buy fuel at the same price, how come there are such big differences consider all the fuel in NSW comes out of Sydney?????

I just put $40 worth of Ultimate.... $1.469/L.... how about we get rid of these .9 and just stick with $1.47?!?! stupid marketing, make it look cheaper!

I think i might be using more fuel as my car is running on Shell Synthetic Oil 5W-50, which is too thick.... should be 5W-30. But im going for my first service tomorrow, and im bringing along Castrol Formula R Synthetic 5W-30.... so it should be all good!

remember that the govt here charge up to 60% of our fuel costs in taxes and excises.

fuel might be cheaper (to the consumer) per litre simply because their govt dont go so heavily on the taxes

I get this argument, but break it down...if the Govt didnt get revenue from fuel sales then they will need to get it from somewhere else - most likely increasing your income tax or some other form of tax.

So what would you rather, less income tax which gives you more cash to spend on any number of items, or less fuel tax (on a discretionary item) in which you can adjust your consumption to reduce cash expenditure anyway but wuld have paid more income tax and have less cash to begin with?

According to Shell when the price is 139.9 the production cost is 74.8, the tax is 50.8 and the retail margin is 13.5.

http://www.shell.com/home/au-en/html...arch_0221.html

Don't know the price of petrol in Japan at the moment, but when I was there last year it was about $1.65.

Incidently, it costs about US$4 a barrell to actual pull the oil out of the ground and put the crude in barrels. Then another $5 per barrel to process it into petrol. So that makes the cost about US$11 a barrel. The rest is pure profit. Interestingly, for a price of around $1.40 at the pump, the price per barrel should be around US$80. So you tell me what is happening.

OPEC and the oil nations are money hungry, we are quite lucky here, UK and european drivers are paying up to $2.50 a litre.

Still, looks like you might see alot more E-Gas cars being sold, since Australia has more gas than a farm full of cows.

its all about supply and demand

cypher - im suprised shell would quote something like that, in most other "articles" you may see, they always try to play the good guy, and that each servo only "makes" about 3-4c per litre.

whippet - if you want to go down the line about where the revenue is coming from, how about we discuss where the revenue goes to?? our roads are crap, the hospital system is crap, the water situation is crap.....are there any bright spots??

Hey guys,

I recently found this handy little tool at the RACV site. Type in your postcode and find the best fuel prices nearest to you.

http://petrol.racv.com.au/index.jsp

Enjoy all...

(about to purchase a ST170 very soon --- just missed out on buying lincolns' ...damn)
