Default Is this a genuine Ford accessory?

I found this while doing a search, but cannot find anything more on it. Is it genuine or would it be an after market thing?

That was a genuine AU accessory. Obviously only useful when stopped as it fitted to the gear lever only when in park. Supposed to provide a desktop for tradies or sales reps or anyone else running a business from their car.

I don't know what the take up was like but at least someone inside Ford Australia was trying back then. I'll see if I can find anything else on it.

I found this. It looks to be where the image is from.

AU Falcon - Options and Accessories
3 September, 1998

An integral part of the AU Falcon program has been the development of a wide range of factory and dealer fitted options and accessories.

The key advantage of factory or dealer fitted options is that customers avoid the risk of compromising the new car warranty, a risk which may arise with after market products.

New Factory Fitted Options

Mobile Office

The Mobile Office Pack transforms the Falcon interior into an "office-on-wheels" via the addition of several practical pieces of equipment. Available on Forte and Futura the Mobile Office Pack consists of:
  • Horizontal Work Table - Designed to fit over the automatic transmission handle and cup holder recess to form a stable working surface for laptop computers, notepads, books and binders. The work surface also incorporates a beverage holder suitable for cans and most 600ml drink containers. To ensure the table is only used when the vehicle is stationary the work table can only be placed in position when the transmission lever is in the 'Park' position.
  • Mobile Phone Presenter - Designed to mount most brands of mobile phones the presenter provides a safe, secure and permanent phone mounting point. When not in use the mounting arm is concealed within the centre console.
  • Additional 12-Volt Power Outlet - This can be used for portable fax machines, laptops, etc.
    Stowage bag for worktable.
  • Aimable front seat reading lamps.
  • Rear reading lamps and grab handles.

Thanks guys.
Now just to find one, can't have enough of the odd ball things. Knowing the name "Horizontal Work Table" might make it easier to find.

I picked one up last year on Gumtree for $15.
I haven't used it, but just wanted it too.

If you want to part with it, let me know. Even knowing the actual name didn't help with finding one on line.

If anyone else has one they would like to sell, once again let me know.

Can you remember what it was advertised as?

I can't say that I do, it was at least 12 months ago.

I usually just search for 'AU' under automotive though.
This thing was only about 1/2 hour drive too.

i would mind one either if anyone can find some! Would be very handy for the laptop when tuning, rather than balancing the lappy between the centre console and the handbrake!

Judging by searches, these are pretty rare to find now. Oh well. Nice thought!

Cheers

Default Re: Is this a genuine Ford accessory?

I have contacted the Ford dealer in Darwin about the "Mobile Office Pack" and not surprizingly they couldn't be ********* even looking it up (this is the same mob that said no remotes for wagons and want $290.00 to recode a key)

I emailed then rang Ford Australia and was told after 10 years any remining warehouse stock is offered to Rare Spares and Ford owners clubs.
Rare Spares has no listing for any of the accessories and I am sure if the clubs had any, someone here would know about them.

The other option Ford suggested, was ringing individual dealeships. So if anyone has a contact in a dealership (or knows someone who knows someone) could you please ask them to check it out.

I.m sure there would be a few of us wanting the Horizontal Work table if they could be found.

Thanks

I picked up an old AU the other week and it has the (very factory looking) mobile phone holder in the center console, been trying to find more about it before I remove it...

This thread is probably the most info I have been able to find out about it.

Doesnt seem to have any of the other "mobile office pack" options tho.

Apologies for bumping an old thread.

No apologies necessary, old threads usually have great information.
The phone holder was sold separately as well, it is still uncommon but only worth around $20 - $30 to sell.
vehicles with the pack had a cigarette lighter socket in the bottom right hand corner inside the console for connecting the phone into (this was wired into the stereo so music was cut when phone was activated). It would also have an external antenna on the roof, also wires in the console and additional map lights.
