All non-ghia fairmonts came with the exact same drivetrain as a forte. Non-VCT motor & live rear axle. LSD was an option, but who buys a Fairmont but options it with an LSD?

My AU2 Forte V8 live axle was LSD. It is an option, and smart buyers tick the box.

My Fairmont's got an LSD with the live axle. Not sure if it's original or not though.

I only thought the live rears were LSD only. $550 isn't too bad for a whole LSD assuming its a 3.45 ratio. I paid $500 from a wrecker for mine. Low miler with 3.45 ratio. Just need to make sure its in good nick and you may need to throw some fresh diff oil in.

there used to be a diff tag on the rear of the diff to tell you ratio. Well there used to be with older fords. If it came from a fairmont I doubt it will be 3.45, Possibly 3.23. When I checked the condition of mine I spun one wheel to see if the other side spun the other way. That was the main way of telling you had an LSD.
