Exclamation Where do they get their cars from?

Hey All!

Does anyone know where second hand car dealers get their stock from?

Apart from trade ins and "cash for cars".

I can't believe they would use manheim, pickles, grays and the like, those are all virtually retail prices?

Any ideas? There has to be some place that only sells to LMCT Licence holders.

Cheers

Dealer only auctions, Pickles & Manheim also do Dealer Auctions, mostly ex fleet and lease cars, some will buy privately if the price is right, I sold a 2 year old Lancer to a dealer, they had a customer looking for the same colour and options.

That's one of the reasons that Pickles, etc, use a Buyer's Premium.
So dealers and wholesalers are free to negotiate their own premium and rebates with Pickles etc.

Bunky car yards will get their stock from anywhere, some of the big dealers will have trade ins that they will sell to the smaller yards.

When I had the wrecking yard I had a dealers licence, I used to buy some used cars from a Metro motors in Morley ( Holden dealer ) most cars were over 10 years or high ks, they would have a weekly tender on the trade ins they were not interested in, I would look at the pictures they had online and then fax in a tender of what cars I was interested in, bought some great cars and some real sh!t heaps too .

Now some of the dealers will send the trade ins to Grays as they can get more than they trade them for

Rental car companies.
Anything two years old with ~50k kms will invariably be an ex-rental car.

Well outta touch these days but spent many years working for a Toyota dealership then a Ford outfit, rental mob Avis or similar would take on plenty of Corollas then two years later we would have them back on the yard, people would line up to buy the things and why not ie most had done around 59k or so and still a year of warranty left, anything with bigger ks would get flicked off at cost or thereabouts to a yard down the road.

Car wholesalers are very aggressive with late model cars. They spend their days scanning all the web pages like Carsales and don’t mess around.
They then sell the cars to the dealers.

Hi Guy's
I worked for Pickles for seven months as a car detailer. They had all sorts of cars some repo car's, etc.
I once detailed two Range Rover's that had only twenty five ks on them.

Dearler's would come to the auction's which was on Thursday and i have to say that Pickles did have some very nice car's at the auction.

They also got a lot of ex rental car's there also. They worked you pretty hard there but the plus side was the time went very quickly.

I was talking to Jarvis Cars in Adelaide recently. I'm sure he said they get over 200 cars a month from Carsales instant offers. That's where the seller clicks on the link to get an instant offer rather than Jarvis approaching anyone directly.

Generally they have a contract with Car sales. They have to pay Car Sales to do this.(it is not cheap btw). They would be the only dealer in that particular region to do this.In the A.C.T. Capital Honda(part of the Lennock motors group.)also do the instant offer. They are the only one in this region to do it.

I been keeping an eye on some F6's in WA, they have been getting snapped up on Gumtree and Marketplace and find their way onto dealer lots for and extra 10%, some are even being shipped from over east to WA

We used that feature when we traded the Wife's ASX on the Ranger, didnt take them up on the offer mind you, simply presented it to the Dealer we we're buying the Ranger from and the bettered it instantly.

Did it again with our Daughters MY20 Cerato, got an offer from Jarvis through Carsales, listed it on Gumtree, received a call from another Dealers buyer, he made an offer, I said Jarvis offered more and he came back with a better deal again, sold within 24hrs.
