Hi fellas. Just a quick one if I may.
I have an EL Falcon that has factory installed Cruise Control. This vehicle is just used by my wife to the local golf course and back. The main vehicle is a 2005 Territory SX no cruise control. Is it possible to transfer this over ? Would it be worth the effort ? If so would it be a job for a mechanic or an auto electrician. As always, thank you for your advice on my questions. Its been a while since i've looked under the bonnet of an E series Falcon so bare with me here, but i believe from memory the EL cruise control is cable operated from an actuator to the throttle body butterfly, whereas B series and Territory are a drive by wire throttle setup which means there are no cables.
A friend of mine just fitted cruise control to his BA wagon and all he needed was the steering wheel buttons and the feature activated through the cars BCM i believe. You'll need the proper B series/Territory cruise control buttons and to take the car to Ford or someone who can activate the feature for it to work after you've installed the buttons which is fairly straight forward, not sure what Ford etc. would charge to activate. |

Thought Cruise control was standard across the range, were talking a 2005 car not something from the 90's

From what I can see it appears the SX TX did not have cruise control...
a bit of a read and apparently they have the module standard, so all you need is the steering wheel buttons and switch on the brake pedal. They don't have an actuator as they don't have a cable they are 'fly by wire It does need to be software activated

Do as bent8 said. After the au, ford went fly by wire which simplifies things significantly.

Hi. You will more than likely find that the 2 switches needed for the cruise control are fitted to the brake pedal and you will just need to get a set of steering wheel switches. When you fit the switches to the wheel you may need to trim away some of the plastic on the wheel so that the switches sit low enough for the horn to work. (just compare the side with the audio switches to the other side to see how they sit.) When you have the switches fitted take the car for a drive and see if it works as about 50% of the cars that have needed switches were pre programmed to work once the switches went in. Cheers MD

You blokes are so helpful. I think I see the way to go there so first look into the switch’s, whether they will fit. May be visit a wrecker for a new steering wheel centre. And see an electrician. Thanks again.

The EL buttons are a waste of time and effort mate, if you want cruise on the territory just buy the switches from a same era Falcon or territory, they fit straight on more or less.
If what you're suggesting is to somehow integrate the EL switches into the Territory and get a sparky to make them work, it will cost more and look rediculous than just sourcing the correct switches, thats if it could be done anyway. Just to confirm, most of what's stated above is correct.
I fitted genuine cruise to my EF back in the day. It's a whole new piece of hardware (actuator) that slots in, and then a cable runs to the throttle. BA onwards (including Terry) is completely electronic, so all you need are the buttons. Have a good hunt on eBay, you may even find some NOS ones, otherwise good condition 2nd hand will be fine. They are easy to fit, no electrician required. You might find that you need to cut out a piece of the trim, I'm not sure if the gap was standard on all cars. As mentioned above, you will hopefully find that once you plug in the buttons, you can simply turn it on and away. If not you'll need to turn the feature on. A dealer can do this for you, but levels of helpfulness vary. |
