I worked as a console operator during the Caltex Ampol Merger. I worked at serval sites, only one being an Ampol, (Lutwyche whish is now Caltex) It was at Lutwyche I was held up at gunpoint on a Monday morning about 3 am, (this was 3 months after the site had become 24 hours).

What I do recall always thinking was that Ampol sites seemed dark and dingy, It was the Dark Blue in the branding that really dulled the lighting around the canopy facias. It is probably a combination of the fact I was held up at Ampol, along with the darkness of the site that stuck in my head, but I do hope they somehow modernise the branding to avoid the look of the dark dingy sites Ampol had.

Yep and on Skippy the bush kangaroo it has 2 Ampol fuel bowsers their both Standard and super colour types but both say super, one is supposed to be for the chopper fuel and other for the cars.

In one show I seen Ampol service station showing off a new fuel CX3 I think it was.

Just like most cars on the show you seen only Ford cars.

From Ampol Wiki entry.
1995 was the merge of Ampol and Caltex to form Australian Petroleum Pty Ltd.
1997 became Caltex Australia Ltd, registered and based in Singapore.

I wonder if Caltex Australia still has the rights to use all the names from the previous mergers and takeovers over the years?

In 1962 H.C.Sleigh (Golden Fleece) acquired Kangaroo Petroleum.

You are not going to get a much more Aussie Brand than that.

AMPOL oil company was owned by PIONEER construction company which was an all Australian owned company. They sold it to Caltex before its self being bought by HANSON concrete.

I can imagine that the CHEVRON wanted increased money for licensing the
the use of the CALTEX brand, their bluff has called well and truly been.

I wonder if this is also positioning to sell off assets in Australia, the CALTEX
refinery in Brisbane was originally expected to close not long after BP but that
plan seems to have changed.

Cancel that, I just saw this..

Chevron returns to Australia fuel retail with $288 million Puma Energy asset buy
DECEMBER 19, 2019 / 10:42 AM
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-p...-idUSKBN1YN02I

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Chevron Corp’s Australian unit on Thursday said it would buy the domestic commercial and retail fuels business of Puma Energy for A$425 million ($288 million), marking a return to the country’s fuel distribution market.

The sale by Singapore-based Puma Energy, 49%-owned by commodities trading giant Trafigura, comes as Puma pushes to rebalance its books after a decade-long spree snapping up oil assets. It reported a net loss of $463 million in the first nine-months of the year.

For Chevron, the deal marks a return to a sector it left in March 2015 after selling its half-share in refiner Caltex Australia for $3.7 billion. Puma has more than 270 retail sites, 20 depots and 3 bulk seaboard terminals across Australia and delivers more than 1 billion liters of fuel a year.
Quote:
Last month, sources familiar with the sale told Reuters that Trafigura would accept a hefty discount to the price it paid and that the assets would likely fetch no more than $500 million, which they said would be a sharp drop in price.

Puma, which said it was retaining its bitumen business in Australia, entered the country in 2013 with the purchase of Ausfuel, Neumann and Central Combined Group assets. Media reports at the time said it paid around $850 million for the Ausfuel and Neumann assets.

Despite the potential scale of the price tag difference, some investors said the sale would be welcomed by Trafigura, which last week reported its lowest annual net profit in nearly a decade after a string of losses in its physical asset portfolio.

So "Caltex Australia" now rebrands as AMPOL and looks to be a take over target.
Chevron Buys Puma Australia assets....does this man the Caltex brand goes on Puma assets?

we live in interesting times...
