Not the real deal, the bottom row of numbers/letters should align with the top writing, not centered like it is if that makes sense?

396 is not on this list. Is it another to add? Authenticity needs to confirmed obviously.

I am only new to the Forum but am the owner of #254 and have been since 1986.
When I lived in Rockhampton, QLD around 1990, I ran into an aboriginal named Allen who owned a Cobra, so naturally I pulled up to check it out. I can't remember all the details but remember clearly it had a glove box plate that read the same as mine with the cobra pic,the word "COBRA", but had the word "PROTOTYPE" instead of a number. I did look at the body number and it wasn't JG65UM... , and the build date was I think late 1977.
Allan managed a pub there and I saw it regularly, its rego was 777-NNX (QLD).
I have attached a photo of it. I left Rocky in 1996 and don't know what happened to it.

perhaps it was one of the 13 pre-Bathurst cobras 'JG65TE', they were December 77 builds.

Hi,
got a few more Cobra's to add.

#198 advertised on Muscle Car Stables , listed as Sold, 5.8,Auto, AC,PS,PW
#268 advertised on Aussie Muscle Car Sales, Sold, 4.9, Manual
#378 advertised on Aussie Muscle Car Sales, Sold, 4.9, Auto, AC,PS,PW

I also have photos from the 90's I took of every Cobra I saw, but not sure if they are still alive or not. They are numbers 009, 032, 036, 042, 053, 064, 074, 093, 099, 114, 124, 153, 162, 180, 189, 199, 226, 254, 266, 303, 315, 316, 333, 343.
I have been collecting info on Cobras for a long and have lots of ads from Unique Cars, etc, if anyone would like me to see if I have an advert for their car. I have kept a register of what options each Cobra i have seen had too.

I bought #358 from the Trading Post in 1996. It was outside Nanango in country Qld so got up early in Brisbane and was the first one there on a Saturday morning. Didn't know a lot about the history of Cobras and what to look for but took a gamble. I had to go into town to find an ATM to put down a deposit and, by the time I got back, there were 4 groups of men trying to convince the owner to sell it to them. Thankfully he was honest and said 'first in best dressed'. I didn't have the cash to buy it outright so had to borrow from Avco(does anyone remember them...) at a substantial interest rate. When people saw the condition it was in, I was told I was mad... We drove it as a daily driver for years and even transported it to NSW while we lived there for a while - until we could no longer fake a Qld address and it was never passing NSW rego. It was taken back to bare metal in 2008 and professionally restored over a 12 mth period. The engine, gearbox, brakes, exhaust etc were all done at the same time - the engine getting some 'magic' parts allegedly by an ex Dick Johnson Racing mechanic from the 70's/80's. Unfortunately, the restorer went bust a year or so after I got my car back because the owner got very sick and couldn't manage the workload. With them went all my pictures of the restoration - yes I should have downloaded them and actually thought I had, but can't find them... The interior is yet to be done - even though I have had the material safely stored for 12 years. Also, the fuel pumps bladder has deteriorated so am looking for a mechanic in Brisbane North to fix it and service the engine. For business reasons I am probably going to have to sell it in the next 3-6 months as I have other priorities now so if anyone can recommend a Trimmer or mechanic, I'd be grateful.
Here's a photo of the car (I hope) :

#258 is up for sale on Gumtree now. Price is $30,000. Car appears to be in very poor condition but apparently has the original engine. Located in Donnybrook WA

I've had a look at #258. Car was involved in rollover years ago and has just been left to rust outside for years. Many people would suggest that the car is beyond salvage and so is really only suitable for numbers and parts. Owner is a genuine honest person who is not out to rip anyone off.

I heard it still survives.
IIRC 209 was raced at Bathurst by Dicky. Happy to be educated one way or the other.

As Bearman said it was Cobra #35 but it was raced by B Parsons/T Rabold and unfortunately DNF...

Dicky/Gary Scott raced the Bryan Byrt XC GS500 Hardtop which unfortunately was also a DNF, this car was sold at auction not so long ago...

1978 saw Moffat/Ickx & Bond/Gibson with Cobra's but pretty sure thy where just XB GT's mocked as Cobra's, also Dick/Schuppan was in another XC GS500..

Edit: just realised how old Bearman's post is that you replied to lol.....

The '78 Moffat cars were the '76 cars updated with XC noses for '77, then repainted in Cobra colours for '78. One was used again in '79 in Federation Insurance colours.

Other than the Parsons car, none of the XC race cars started out as Cobras; they were hardtop shells built up from scratch.
