Jeeze I wish I had brought that Bathurst Cobra back in 79. (It was selling for the price of a brand new XD 5.8 / 4 speed / S pack - 79 was my last year of High School - joined the Navy early 1980)

Loved the Cobras ever since.

Thanks for all of your kind words gents, much appreciated.

Have had a little time on the car over the last few days and have managed the following: fit rear quarter markers, fit horns and AC hoses, fit all decals, ashtray and have just started work on fitting the door cards/arm rests.

Here are some pics;

Love this one

Getting much closer now. Main jobs left are the door cards/arm rests and fit the radio.

What a build, and what incredible attention to detail too. Gongratulations on a brilliant restoration.

That's the panel beaters place, well and truly out of the way.

In regards to decal placement, anyone know where these three are supposed to go?

Almost there.

The door cards have now been fitted

I then took the opportunity to give it another wash

Only two more jobs to be done;
1) Have the AM/FM radio overhauled and then fitted
2) Have the AC system gassed up

Then time for licensing

I'm new to the forum, just read your thread, great work. I've just picked up #174 from NSW, arrived last week. I'm in Bullsbrook. I will need to do a few things and then I will also be taking it for rego inspection. Thinking of going to Bindoon as it just as close. I believe Perth inspections have now been centralised. What area are you, looks like hills also from the pics.

Hope you are going to do one more thing before licensing??

Put your compliance plates on

Or is it an old photo and you've already done it??

Yes, did that last night. Unfortunately the car failed due to a non-functioning front left indicator and an engine miss. Will try again in two weeks time.

Bummer!

But if that was all they found after this rebuild, then that is not too bad is it?? Just a pity you now have to wait a further two weeks.

G'day...Gobsmacked...That is just about as good as it gets I think..Considering the Cobra was an after thought originally at the end of the XC model run..it will have to go down as the best after thought of all time...Such presence..they just look amazing..not too mention how they go..All up there was about 250 wasn't there ?..GREAT CAR...Cheers Rod

And that's all they picked you up on only that and some others cars on the road should have been scraped years ok? Sorry mate.

Hi Paull,

Congratulations on an amazing 10 year restoration! I've just spent the last few hours pouring over your posts and you've done a fantastic job. As someone who has restored one of these cars I can appreciate all the challenges you've had. All of that will be forgotten as soon as you drive her for the first time with a huge smile on your face and a wonderful sense of achievement.

You've been an inspiration to many people on here, myself included. Thanks for letting us be apart of your journey.

Well done!

Hello,
The car build looks great and the attention to detail, could i ask where you purchased the carbon canister from as it looks close in size to the original ford unit

Thanks
Lou

Carbon cannister is a new one bought off ebay. It is the correct one for the car (I think they changed from the larger ones to the smaller ones in March/April 1978).

From memory that is a NOS XC Canister. So exact same size.

Paull will correct me if i am wrong.

XC canisters are smaller than XB / ZG canisters
