Nice and it's about time. Ford won't be happy that it's eating into Ranger sales, but it's better than those sales going to Ram, Chevy, etc.

They must be happy with it considering they were the ones to ask Ford USA if it was possible and then did the research with this being the final outcome.

And to be frank if F-150 sells in the same or greater numbers as the Ram and Chevy that's around a months sales of Ranger for a full year sales of the larger US trucks. The bigger issue will be all those customers bringing in their Puma's for service and asking for a F-150 loan vehicle...

Yeah, throw that in the who gives a rats bucket.

The whole basis for the F-Series popularity in the USA (Historically) is that they have offered an inexpensive, powerful, practical vehicle, to millions of hard-working folk in "Middle America."
Selling a couple of thousand of ridiculously overpriced conversions here, to a bunch of CUBs with TPS (Tiny-***** Syndrome), is pretty irrelevant.

Rather than a step forward, I see this as yet another sign of Ford retreating from the market, content to market a few niche vehicles.

I wonder what plans they have to Screw up the Ranger? They must surely be working on something, as it has been too successful for too long already.

Sad to think that within my Lifetime, Ford was at one point the number one selling brand in Australia, and built the number one selling car of all time.

This can only be a good thing for Ford and its presence in Australia.

Currently they only have the Ranger and Mustang to keep them afloat here, if those suddenly become on the nose with the buying public then what will they have to offer?

Their small car range is pretty much overlooked by most people...at least let them get into something they know will sell.

Please Ford...market it properly so people know that it exists!

But no V8 .... bear in mind that people buying them now are paying circa $150k, so fuel consumption is not exactly going to trouble them.

Literally the problem of the owner so no need to stress.

In saying that I had a f350 when I live on Manhattan and found places to park. I’m sure it will be ok here

Lol, that wasnt the party line when discussing the pro's and con's of full sized utes before Ford got onboard.
As recently as a few weeks ago on this forum someone trotted out the old 'our carparks are too small' when the Ram and Silverado were mentioned.
Did Frydenberg direct some budget to new painted lines to accommodate..

Yeah, a single garage is out of the question but a double will work if the thing isn’t too high
but don’t try and squeeze a small car in next to it…

But seriously, the F150 and the new Ranger Raptor should be similar width which will liven some people up…
There’s a lot of like about F150, they’re big but that’s why people want them, the question is how many…

... and there were plenty on this forum who said that they loved the RAM and Silverado and wished that Ford brought out the F-series.

Once again, new model and straight to the negative from you.

I'm praying they make a business case for the lightning version. I'd buy one yesterday if they made that available.

I expect that once the conversion process is proven to work on the Ecoboost, there is likely to be plans to expand to Raptor and Lightning, but that's just me guessing

from your comment about fuel prices in the other post, I just checked and the official combined FE of the 3.5 F150 is 20mpg. that's just under 12l/100 so not really too bad at all.

Its going to be interesting to see, as its main competitors all have V8's as noted previously....how many RAM/Silverado sales were people who used to buy XR8/SS?

With 3.5 only it smells a bit of the Raptor with a 4 pot but I guess we will see.

Lots of questions but glad they are giving it a crack, I too could see a Lightning in the stable.

Yeah, claimed and reality are typically very different. The Canadian site has it @13.1-13.5/100 depending on 4x2 or 4x4. I'd suggest it would be closer to 16 in the city. That's $32 per 100 kms. Even at your estimate, that's still $24 per 100 (premium is a little more though). The discount in Excise will come to an end before the car makes it to market as well. If I did the same kms as I've done in my electrics, that's $24,000 to $30,000 vs $1100 worth of charging (again, being very generous on the charge cost and not considering solar).

Don't get me wrong, there was a time I'd have jumped at this (maybe even 2 years ago). Now that I've owned EVs, I just can't go back. They're brilliant and I'm sure the lightning will be equally brilliant.

I still might get one. Just waiting on final specs. Also, a bit disappointing they aren't offering higher Trim level grades. I wanted the massage seats!

Yeah sure why not, if you want to prove a product and give it its best chance why not offer what the market seems to be asking for, not the half/half option?

The EB isnt a bad engine, but at this price point people want clout and all the NM's in the world wont sound like an 8.

Im sure they have done their research and I do hope it works out.

Exciting news. This is big for Ford Australia.

No V8 is a bit of a disappointment. Test drove both when i bought mine. The ecoboost is an excellent engine. For me the V8 drove a little better and the sound just added to the experience.

Having said that, I do prefer the power higher up in the rev range for my driving style.

I tow a 3.5 tonne caravan and it drives like a dream whilst using less fuel than my previous 200 series....
