Good luck with the sale of your car by the way!
you deff do pay more for Alpine but its worth it.
before i became an Alpine fiend i rocked kenwood, and my kenwood deck even had some features over my Alpine that i kinda missed such as Front High Pass Filter and Rear High Pass Filter over the Alpines single HPF.

and thanks

So with these decks (alpine, kenwood...etc) do any or some of the 3 buttons on your steering wheel work? I have read that you need a IR unit to plug in and the place into your interior light, much like a remote works to get the 3 buttons to work. Do any of the aerpro plug and play leads just allow the volume buttons and not the source/skip/speed set button to work. Only really the volume ones to work.

Nope. You need a CAT adapter to make the steering wheel controls work again.
