This is what I thought would happen. Why would Ford can the falcon? The mustang is in dire need of an upgraded chassis to bring it up to world standards. The falcon is already there. A Shared mustang and falcon platform would be much more cost effective and fit in with the "one ford" program

I'm with you all the way on that one mate. This would give ford aus an export program for the I6, particularly in turbo form

I think if they came in at the right money ( turbo I6 stang ) they would sell like hotcakes, perhaps FPV could do a special edition?

Being a mid sized car with a compact engine bay designed to accommodate "V" Engine configurations i doubt it would fit...
Unfortunately the tall long nature of the I6 makes it a difficult "fit" for the rest of the wider Ford family... Which is why, id say its never left our shores..

The article is in todays Herald Sun page 12 called 'Falcon a Model Car' by Paul Gover (in Detroit) sorry no links or scans. I re-typed the three best quotes from the article myself.

There was also a side story where a guy with an XB was interviewed (secretary of the Falcon GT club) who wasnt happy with the announcement.

Mually's quote is a little confusing in a way. I hope it means good news.

You could interpret Mually's quote as him saying that Mustang and Falcon are getting new platforms, but only the Mustangs will be RWD.

Obviously with a common platform, they can alter the wheelbase to suit a different application. Just like Ford used to do with the Falcon and Fairlane. The only tricky part is going to be the rear floorpan - the Mustang needs a low rear seat because of the fastback, but the Falcon needs a proper passenger car back seat.

So everything up to the B pillar could be shared, but from thereon in there will need to be differences. But Ford seem to make it work now - look at the Falcon sedan and ute - identical from the B pillar forward and nothing alike in the back end. I would imagine some clever design with a platform designed for modular sections in mind would be the go.

Was thinking that. But they may just reinvent themselves as 'Mustang Special Vehicles' and cater to the Mustang buyers who want to pimp their 'stang.

Im going out on a limb.

Mually I think is saying that the Mustang will remain RWD, but under OneFord could be available in Australia. And may even have engineering input from Ford Australia.

Whilst the Falcon is also getting a new platform, he is not necessarily saying it will be RWD. I still think the Taurus based platform is the front-runner.

However, Im glad to be proven wrong.
