Talking XH Ford Ranchero

G'day all, this is a bit of an unexpected one, and one of the most interesting queries I've received. I admit I hadn't heard of this car. Apparently the Ranchero badge was popular on a wagon-based American ute in the '60s and '70s, and they must have revived the name for export XHs. Anyway, if anyone can help, post up.

"Hi Jack,

I was visiting your website looking for some information.

I’m writing from Namibia, a country in the South Western part of Africa.

I own a 1998 Ford Ranchero GLi Outback/Ute 4.0i, 6 cylinder, computer combustion.

The only thing that’s bothering me is, the incompetency of our mechanics over here to effectively deal with problems on the truck, whenever they arise. There is a leakage of oil from the power steering pump/reservoir, and the power steering motor is making a terrible noise. I don’t know what to do. Can you please advice? I want to fit the car with spot/driving lights, how can I do that without compromising the good looks of the car? What type of canopy can I fit to the car? The sail cover on the back is also wearing off, any possibility of getting one from you? Can I fit it with a roll bar? I also want to fit the interior with another stereo; the one in there is a Grundig, no disc player. I need to beef up the sound (speakers) but I don’t know where and how to fit them.

I will appreciate your response.

Please correspond with me and keep me updated on new developments concerning the Ford Ranchero.

Heinrich"

Only thing i can think of it being similar to is the Terra or whatever it was called - remember the concept car Ford and some TAFE students made? Was an XH with beefed up suspension and raised a fair bit over your normal XH.

Do you have an email address for him? If so, ask him to take some pics of it.

Cheers for the responses. I think most of the queries would be solved by ebay or similar (as much as I hate ebay right now ) but the one about power steer sounds like he's leaked fluid. Do the ELs still have the problem with the power steering switch?

im tipping his leakage is the preasure switch. will cause the fluid to leak out and then the powersteering makes a god-aweful noise......

the shell of that VC, is a VK.... rear quarter window, but has metal VC bumpers...

I thought the VB was released in '76 and came here in '78. Though the Opel version wasn't lumped with a damn 202, I can assure you.

Am meaning to inform the XH owner of this thread but my computer situation is proving a little troublesome at the moment. Watch this space.

Interesting that it has the XG steering wheel instead of the XH airbag wheel.
