Default Why is there no o/h sun glasses holder?

My AU Forte wagon has an over head sun glasses holder 😎
My NU Fairlane Ghia has not! 😠
Maybe it was an option? Or possibly a space issue for when a sunroof was fitted?
A sunroof was standard in the LTD so they couldn't possibly have a sun glasses
holder in the lower model Fairlane ! 😏😏
Question: Can I fit one to my Fairlane? If so without taking out the roof lining?
I would imagine the metal base plate is glued to the under side of the roof.
Has anyone done this?
Some help would much appreciated. 👍👍👍

Only AUII/III got them. Every one I've seen is broken to some extent though!

I find the one in the wagon is very handy and has not broken in 13 years.
Is there a HOW TO install a sunglasses holder?

To fit you need to take out the hoodlining, they screw in from the top.

The one in my AU still works fine, although my latest sunnies are a very tight fit. I started worrying that it would break so I've stopped using it with these sunnies.

Mine aren't big at all, and they barely fit. It's just the curvature of the glasses doesn't match the curvature of the sunglasses holder! And those who have met me will verify I'm far from metrosexual :P

Mine was also broken years ago in my AUII Futura wagon. And recent I started to hunt for a good replacement hatch. They usually break at the hinges which clip into place. I even discovered my mate (TheInterceptor)'s supposedly good one, actually was cracked on one of the hinges, but still remained in one piece.
But I kept looking, and one day stopping in at the wrecker, they had a AUII Forte just in, and it had a spotless interior with a PERFECT sunnie holder hatch, so I carefully, pulled it out, and it now lives in the wagon, filling the void that's been there for years!

Although they CAN fit your sunnies, I kinda doubt that was the original intention.
I got a pair of these door pockets from an AU1 Fairlane for my wagon, pretty easy install too since the provisions for them are already there.

There's still a chance of finding good ones - not everyone uses them.

I had an AU3 Futura as a company car for 3 years - never used the sunnies holder once.
Depending on subsequent owners usage, or lack of, someone might score a mint unused one.....

If you think yours isn't broken, check that the forward edge is perfectly flush with the housing. Because they were when they were new. They still work fine for years after that goes until, if they aren't greased, they snap for good.

I'd love one where it's 100% original condition but the tiny tangs that break wouldn't last long if I was to use it. Maybe I'm better off with my half broken one that works
