I like it, the Calais has a GREAT interior, in my opinion, nicer than G6E. And I am liking the look of the SS(?) in the promo pic. Will wait to see one in person before I make my final call on it.

Interior reminds me of Cruze or an Infiniti, and the outside just looks like a Lexus GS/ Malibu / Chrysler Sebring hybrid.

Commodore has died imo. Just doesn't look like a 'Holden Commodore' anymore. Ah well should be a good car and hopefully Falcon will raise the bar again.

And it should have a nicer interior than the G6E. The G6E goes back to 2008 apart from a new touch screen.

Let's see what Ford do.

I can't help but think that GM basically told Holden what they needed to include in the interior tech. This is being made into a Chev. All of this "Australia designed" blah blah. I like this Commodore, but it's obvious that Australian stylists did not have a big say in the frontal, rear, and interior changes. It is basically a Chev now, built in Australia. That's the only reason why it's getting things like HUD etc. Americans have had these features for years.

Interesting report on Channel seven news here in Vic, basically said it was the last aussie Commodore and the next model would be a global 4 cylinder and FWD. Now if Holden are so proud of that, why is it such a big issue if that was happening to Falcon too?

You are right, Falcon interior is now at least a generation old. The fact that the SZ did not have a huge step up in terms of features suggests to me next years Falcon won't either. Happy to be proven wrong of course.

And if Dearborn turned around and told Ford Oz that they must squeeze the new Fusion interior into the Falcon, I wouldn't complain...........

That Calais looks like it would look right at home in a Buick show room over in the States.

I spent a bit of time in a LaCrosse back in 2011, and those pics look pretty similar inside and out to the vehicle I had.

Cheers

At first I wasn't keen on the look of it from outside but in a few hours it has grown on me and I'm starting to like it. The car obviously has some euro look to it as no doubt it part of the bigger plan for exporting it, the Aussie look died a while ago as it doesn't help exportation. Lets face it the usual die hard Ford fans will knock it just as the Holden fans will knock the Ford but there is no doubt that we build great cars here in Australia and it would be a shame to see that end, unfortunately they are moving more and more towards euro styling.

Already been mentioned that there is a fair amount of flack over the new design on various Holden forums.

The news have no idea what they are talking about. It's all speculation filtered down from Dowling.

It has been intentionally built for export, so yes the styling would have to appeal to its primary export market (North America) as would the car tech. Truth is Australians don't buy enough large cars anymore for domestic only styling cues and even when they do, they still want the tech anyway.

Congratulations to Holden for pulling this off. It is now one of the most high tech cars in the GM world stable. Not a bad effort at all for a VE refresh.

Get over it mate, the days of Holden vs Ford are long gone, its Australian vs imports now and we should be doing our best to support the local product regardless of the badge.

Its just an average design to me. Not ugly or anything like that but its not really appealing either. The sort of car that will just blend in after a couple of months.

That's good though. We know how cars which stand out (excluding exotics) fare on the market.

who said anything about ford v holden?

have a look at the comments. i have no problem with people praising the product, but then using the opportunity to have an extra dig at the opposition (which happens to be australian made also, even moreso) is very typical of those doing it.

there are many members on here that only seem to comment when its a GM related article or its vfacts time and they can offer their 'wisdom'.

Ford fans are not as tribal generally, they buy on what looks to be the best car for them and given serious thought to the competition. Hence why many on here have other brands and models and chop and change as the market produces another contender. That makes Fords job harder and is part of the reason why they have been hit harder in sales than Holden. More choice means less returning Ford owners. Ford can't just count on a large tribal base of buyers as they simply don't have as many.

Holden fans are more tribal and expect the VF to be a retuned VT Commodore that looks like it will be in the next Fast and the Furious movie. That is what they expect to buy new or used. World class is great, as long as it doesn't have to look like a world car which challenges preconceptions or cost as much as one.

I didn't know Ford was a football team, which seems the level of engagement you have as a car enthusiast.

There will be lots of discussion about the VF at Ford over the next few weeks. Maybe you can attend and tell them to get over themselves, because they aren't Ford enough for you.
