MB Mondeo headlight staying on

Hi guys, our 2010 MB Mondeo hatch is having troubles with the right headlight staying on after the car has been switched off. Happens after driving without any lights on, turn car off and only the right head and tailight will stay on until the lights are switched on and off manually via the dash control. Also the right indicator has been coming on at random whilst driving? Any ideas?! Thanks in advance

I reckon your lights issue and indicator issue are linked.

Front and rear lights on one side sounds like the one-side parking lamps feature. Engine off, set the indicator stalk to left or right turn position, and the parkers on that side only will illuminate.

If your right-turn indicator is coming on at random while driving then you might have a short-circuit or loose connection. This is probably also causing the car to think you have set the stalk for right-side parkers.

If you can, try taking the housing off the steering column and inspect the internals of the switchgear. Not that I can advise you what to look for, other than maybe something will be obviously loose or worn that you can fix. Otherwise it shouldn't be too hard for an auto electrician to sort out.

Thanks Daveo, I had narrowed it down to some sort of problem with the indicator stalk, after some research I discovered the parking lamps feature once the indicator is slightly depressed either way. Sure enough the most slight touch or even tap on the indicator will bring the park lamps on! I will take the housing off and post my findings if any! Thanks again

I had my left hand indicators coming on randomly on my MC whilst still under warranty. The indicator stalk was replaced. Took some time to get the part in too if I remember correctly.

After 7 years, I'm still learning about the Mondeo. I had no idea that there was a park lamps feature!

Just in case it's news to anyone, there's also a similar feature called "home safe lighting". When the engine is off, pulling the stalk as if you were engaging high-beam turns the low-beam lamps on with a timer (3 minutes, or 30 seconds after last door closed, according to the manual). It's been pretty convenient on some of the darker nights.

Learning more and more thanks guys! Other than this the Mondeo has been a brilliant car, my wife loves it also.I have a 2010 GT335 myself and find it amazing how two cars built in the same year have such different levels of tech features and luxuries even with a huge price point the Mondeo has tonnes more features and niceties the GT simply does not! The only dislike is the lack of digital speedo (unless anyone has a secret to bring that up on the display) and the difficulty of reading the analogue speedo with a quick glance it's difficult to determine what speed the needle is on.

yeah knew about the 'Home Safe' lights I prefer not to use them personally, I do use 'Follow Me Home' feature where the park lights stay on for x seconds or to your selection when locking/unlocking the vehicle, in sync with the interior lights.

Ended up sorting the issue without too many dramas. Pulled off the top and bottom covers on the steering column, next I removed the indicator stalk by removing two small screws top and bottom and then simply pull out. I found a small circuit board on one side of the stalk, undid two screws holding this and found that using a soft cloth and cleaning the area on the back of the circuit board which the indicator strikes did the trick.
