To the uninformed buyer who wasn't aware of the level of discounting, this move will surely get their attention. 700 Falcons sold last month, I'd hate to be a Ford dealer come June when the VF is available....

If anyone is interested the VF will be on display in Griffith NSW at the end of this week. They have been advertising it on the radio.

The rear is identical to the current VE Sportswagon, which is a bit disappointing.

Add in new Jeep product that's technically superior to the Territory and, well, you want to be selling boat loads of Kuga's and Focus wouldn't you.

Well it is advertised in every Friday/weekend news paper, every week & on they websites. Any buyer looking at these kind of car knows what the real price is. How dumb do you think people are??

Did the dropping of RRP of 3.5K on the Falcon about 12 -18 months ago, bring all these new customers to Falcon??

The rears have always been the same in a mid cycle update. Think XA - XC, XD - XF, EA - EL etc etc etc.

The poverty pack VF's do look uninspiring.

The pricing is what people have been calling for, for years. Having RRP represent the normal purchase price, one of the many reasons why commodore and falcon have historically had one of the worst re-sale ratings by redbook. If no-one is buying anywhere near RRP, the depreciation is calculated from the lowest purchase price, leading to a shocking depreciation score based on RRP. This will eliminate the commodore and falcon from some peoples decision making based on some internet search criterias.

Please keep in mind research by buyers in the 21st century is done differently than how people use to research in the past.

I agree, this is the only benefit I can see from the dropping in RRP.

Resale value it what is turning allot of people away from Falcon & Commodore & this will help improve that score.

I'm wondering how popular this thing's gonna be. To me, it looks dated. And it doesn't look like a Commodore. And people may still think there's too much VE flavour remaining. But on the other hand, there were people trading VE's on VE Series II cars so who knows. Blind faith may prevail...

The badges on the rear had duct tape over them so I couldn't really tell but I thought it made out "Lumina", I could be wrong though!

Self parking pppfffttt, what real man would admitt he wasnt equipped to do this really easily himself ?

Ford here in wa are selling new turbo utes for 35490 drive away, bloody mongrels make it hard for those wanting to sell a turbo ute that cost around 40000 twelve months ago, looks like they have been watching holdens price cuts.

40k 12 months ago?..you loose about 20% driving out the door to start with, so your down to $32k without worring about 12 months.

FWIT I think they have made it look a little Koreanish...but the HSV chops looks fine.

Example, Holden Epicafail

Can someone point out a new mainstream car that will not lose a heap of money when you sell it ?!!
FACT : Cars cost you money
Don't buy one if you can't afford them.
End rant!

I was surprised buy the new official prices but Holden had no choice really. Lot's of competition from imports.

This RRP price drop may well be all smokes and mirrors but fact is, those new prices are going to be plastered everywhere you look, along with the new look and features that aren't available on the FGII so Ford are going to have to do something, the FG won't be able to compete unless they drop RRP well below Commodores RRP in my view.

I couldn't care less for auto trans, but the rest of the features such as auto park, sensors, satnav etc are all options on a lot of cars still (bar maybe high spec bmw's etc).

It's hardly smoke and mirrors when you consider SatNav as an option on the current FG is 1500, there are no front park sensors, the interior is now very dated in comparison.

Then you have the lighter aluminum construction (not cheap), a swathe of interior improvements, etc etc.

All the FG needs realistically is an interior improvement and update the standard equipment. Add paddleshift and you'd have a winner.

It would be great to see Ford counter this aggressively.

How about undercutting the RRP by $2000 and offering buyers the opportunity to upgrade to the next model with a $5000 Changeover or something. I don't know, I'm living in dream land.

Bit off topic I suppose but went to KNOX Chrysler/Ford dealer today. Spent a bit of time looking at the Jeep and Territory. Even got to do a lap in an SRT8 Jeep ..... Guess what! As the saying goes ..... I bought a Territory.

To put it as subtle as possible Rodge as I know you are a lover of the Chrysler .... once doing a one on one comparison .... trying to be as totally unbiased as I could which is actually quite easy to do when it is your own money being spent ..... the TS Territory Diesel wiped the floor of the Chrysler.

This technical superiority is getting so OLD and CRAPPY. Unless I am just so missing something? Do they fly? Drive by themselves? Is there a new model they didn't know about? WTF is this technically superiority? They cannot even fit 7 seats in them! To families buying a family SUV ..... what's more important? Number of seats or something technical?????

The SRT Jeep was quick though ...... but so impractical for such a pricey 4x4.. Useless to 99% of the public.

ANYWAY .... sorry way off topic but wanted to say it as I will reiterate ..... I bought a Territory (as so technically unsophisticated it is ..... nearly broke my arm winding the crank!)

not a lot of fun hand cranking a 4.0 litre , off topic sorry, my old 1976 nissan patrol had an engine crank handle..... i kid you not, i only ever used it once about 15 year ago, my shoulders and arms are still aching .
Back on topic, when it is all said and done a few gadgets are nice to have , but in the end the motor cars main function is to get to point A to point b in a reasonable amount of comfort, and when it comes down to it the average joe is more concerned about his bottom line , ie..... how much cash he has in his bank balance,
hence the big car down turn, people are buying what best suits the budget, and there is a lot more budget buyers out there, regardless of a few gadgets missing or not most people will buy what their budget allows,
i might add a mate come for a visit tonight, a mate trucky, he reckons despite pollys and papers saying economically we are doing doing ok(talking up the economy), he reckons freight is/ has been dead, he is hoping for a single days work next week.

perhaps the boom in small cars is a sign of depressed economy which won't help any of the big cars, the commy being slashed in price may also be another sign of this, it is hard to see the newer commy making a big hit even with the update.

Well I guess that’s the “Wheels COTY 2013” sewn up.

Does anyone know what IS the future for the Commode? Depending on who or what you read, GM has either abandoned future RWD development, OR is working a new lighter version of the Holden (aka “Zeta”) platform?
Back when they were still “committed” to the Holden RWD platform, the new Impalas was going to be RWD built on the Holden platform, but that was abandoned in favour of the FWD Epsilon II.

If, as rumoured, GM opts for the Epsilon II (FWD) platform for the Commode, would we see a swing back to the Flacon (ala 1980’s)?
The Commode is already running Australian built versions of the “new” 54deg V6 engine, so that could be seen as a precursor.

Holden has again left their “large FWD” slot vacant, so perhaps they plan to reposition the Commode?

Do you think there’s a chance that this is all just another 1970’s “people don’t want large cars anymore” nightmare? That we will again look back in 20 years and laugh? Or is it more permanent this time?
