Default TURBO I6 or V8?

Going off a brief discussion in the 'show n shine' section under the 'show us ya BA' thread, I thought I'd start this poll... The rest is self explanatory...

Basically - is a Turbo 6 (XR6T, Typhoon) your type of engine or are you a V8 (XR8, GT) man... Just used the cars in the brackets as an example - would prefer you to vote on which ENGINE you prefer - not which car! Cheers :hihi:

Engine alone? Definitley the V8. Its a Modular Engine, they have alot more aftermarket then the Barra240T/F6 270 does.

I went turbo I6. As they can make extra power without become and EPA/cop magnet. Unlike the V8's. As soon as they start making some noise your screwed.

there is more reliability in a v8 than an aftermarket v8 but there is so much potential in a turbo...

i would go the turbo if i could.....

You can always turbo a v8 but you cant make a T6 sound like an 8, just look at Rod's ute for example 135mph on a massive 7lb's.........................................

turbo 6 because its actully faster (read in the newspaper) and i love the sound of a turbo winding up. but i must say long term i would rather a V8 cause i recon over the k's it would run better and longer then a turbo'd 6, plus 8's sound great

Geez how many times has this been done!

I will say, in terms of sound, assuming both cars have stock exhaust systems, I think XR6T is pretty hard to beat. The 8's are too quiet for my liking.

Hasn't one guy on this forum run a 13.2 in his stock F6...

The fastest modded XR6T's have run in the 10's (10.24 i believe) already in Aus. Whats the fastest time for any of the BA 8's (Not having a go, I really don't know). I think it is high 12's???

Personally I'd go the turbo 6 - so easy to modify for hardly any cash, just has so much potential to go fast.

Having said that I'd still own one of the 8's anyday :voldar02:

I would have to agree with you on that one, it's sad that these days stock exhaust systems sound so, well, pathetic.

Bring back the days when V8s actually sounded like 8s and scared animals and small children in the next suburb when they were started up. :evilsasmo

So for that reason, and the potential the turbo 6 has, as well as other advantages (driving off boost so fuel consumption will be less then the V8, a little more room in the engine bay) I chose the 6 option.

But there is nothing like the sound of a good v8 with a decent exhaust...

Whilst admitting Turbos are much easier to mod, therefore get more out of, and although I highly admire them, I'd go a GT if I had the resources to do so. For the most of us, we don't drive them fully to their limits so image is important and thats what a V8 has. Plus most of your driving is start stop city traffic, so when the opportunity comes, there is no lag in a V8!

I really like both the 6 and the V8 but for sound, yeah the V8 is so queit these days you can't here one cumming.

And as far as i am aware the XR6T is QUICKER than the V8 down the 1/4 with a 10.xx sec pass.

De compress the 5.4 alittle fit GT45 and you have best of both worlds!!!

A turbo V8 that would be nice..

Here's one in a Fox Mustang...
