You hit the nail on the head.

Definately "OVAKIL", Inspired me to put the Blower on my car

and Chris Cristous XY GT. Inspired me to paint my car Blue.

Two great cars

I know its from the dark side.
Rex websters fj some people know it as HIGHTECH or THE MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION.
this car was light years ahead of its time, and I believe the editor of Extreme magazine has it and is planing on restoring it.
there is definatly some sensational cars out there this one stand out for me as rex was doing 20years ago what people are doing now

For detail you can not go past Ron Barclays HQ ute

For something different and original a HQ ute called Blowbak

For something wild at the time Rob Beauchamps prostock VL Calais

For toughness in it's era Peterrsons black Zephyr

Burn out King Fat Jack Peterson. At Heathcote in the late 70s full 1/4 mile burnout do a u turn and smokem all the way back down the strip. In racing he was always a tough competitor. In real life, damn good bloke to have on your side.

The recaro(romano?) convertable ea was preety cool :,it was well ahead of it's time,I think ford actually "borrowed" some of the syling cues for later models.

Aside from that, the usual suspects,Christou,Beauchamp,Astill.

Does anyone remember the green xd/e with an efi clevo and simmons in one of the summernats top tens in the eightys?

What about the yellow with graphics, mechanicly injected xb sedan that was reborn about 10 times?

One of my all time favourites, although I think it was early 90's,was the charcol esp "eathdt".It rode on fr 18's and would drive to calder and run 11's,and drive home again.

<<<<< This car! Chris Christou's XY was in the very first copy of Street Machine that I ever bought. Was 1983 or 1984 I think.
What about the yellow 69 Mustang with a Chev in it, memorable for all the wrong reasons!

Guess i'll have to vote for the cover car of March '86 which my old man built called King Henry. It was a black XD/F with a 472 cube BB. He also had a Turbo EA back in '88 called Future Shock.

My most memorable car from back in the day would definately be Alley Cat if anyone remembers that?

Ovakil was a solid looking car but everytime I saw it in person it required the use of a tow truck.

Loved the Castrol Coupe, still remember the day the new owner was handed the keys at the Street Machine State Nationals '86.

For me the toughest early car was a sqaure red Torana with a cross-ram injected Keith Black engine, or Sledgehammer which was a blown blue XC Coupe I think.

Blowback was my favourite, although I decided that in the early 90's reading through Dad's old mags.

For me it was Barclay's HQ ute, Fitzy's FC and Astill's Compact Fairlane

They all hit the spot with engineering, style and detail

I remember the EA! Dark blue with the factory body kit on polished Simmons. The engine bay looked like a damm mirror factory. Iirc the same issue had a feature on a pink Ford T bird prostreeter from Amercia, might have been a best of issue actually.

Yeah thats the car!
I think the mag you are refering to is the second edition of Roaring Fordies magazine on which it was the cover car.

My favourite would have to be Howard Astill's ROCK SOLID 3 which was the Blue XA(?) which he gave away at the 1988 Summernats.
The guy who won it was already on his way back to Sydney when his mates rang him. So he bolts back to Canberra to pick it up get pulled over on the way and explains the story to the cops and they let him off and commented that they will be waiting for him to return so they could defect it..... FAT CHANCE that car was engineered to perfection.

Well there are so many I dont realy know where to start !

Used to be a black XC coupe from Parramatta, number plates "4MYLYN". It was So straight and well detailed it was amazing ! It was also stolen and never seen again ! I saw this car in person at the Wagga Easternats in "88" .

A few years befor that when Howard Astills Rock was maroon and ultra detailed . I loved that car better than when it was blue!

Anyone remeber Fast Freddy Cavcini's 33 (Ithink) ford coupe with the blown hemi at a few of the summernats ? Awsome car , crazy dude !

So many cars I dont know where to go next !

I nearly ran up the back of that car at Adelaide International Raceway when it was still red. We were lining up for scruitineering at a street meet when I got a bit close in another XA sedan!!

Ah, that would be the XD built by Mark Sgaravizi?? (Spelling... sorry Mark) that had the '88 Nats' plate, Methanol Madness.
Yep, I have to vote that car, closely followed by the Mad Max Interceptor that was rebuilt, but has since gone to the UK.

A few people have mentioned a lot of the Fords I've liked from Street Machine, and I have a whole bunch of the big full size posters bought from Summernats 8 or so.
They will go up in my shed if ever I build it!
The '80's and '90's were great years for some real neat Ford street machines.
