Hi, I am a bit late on this thread! My son just found some OVAKIL chat and was surprised to see it was that popular. The '80's certainly were a great time, cruising in OVAKIL down Parramatta Road was a real buzz and something that kids these days won't ever have the opportunity to do again. I still have it in the shed and is next on the list after my current Land Speed project which I am using the OVAKIL engine for. If I can work out how to post some pics I will put them up.

i loved the Falcon Coupe they gace away as a prize. there was also a VC commodore with a dfrop tank that appealed, a Sigma (cant remember if it was a turbo) and a black XD with XF fronmt and rear tail lights, i think it was titled King Henry. at the time the guy had sunk about $80k into the car which blew me away.

I need to finish my chopped XJ-S Jaguar for the Salt Lake for next March. I am using the blown, injected OVAKIL engine until I can afford to rebuild a twin turbo Jag V12. Then I can put OVAKIL back on the road with an engineers cert and be legal, finally. My 4 kids can't wait and either can I. It will be blast after 15+ years. The car did have a bit of a cult following as there were few blown clevo's and none with EFI at the time. Sometimes I can't believe that it ran with all the bits that I put together esp the distributorless ign system, EFI etc, all back in 1987!!

That's not the same car. This one Scott built was with a new shell. The old madness was burnt to the ground when Craig gerdes owned it.

Chic still owns his Impala...I'm pretty sure he still uses it to officially open the burnout
comp at the 'nats each year.

Alan Fleming still owns the motivator. Last I heard he was look for sponsers for a
complete rebuild including a VS commodore front clip.

What about the first Street Machine cover car - "Alley Cat"?
Jag V12 in a Holden Panel Van. Apparently it's sitting in the owners garage minus drivetrain.
Street Legal was another awesome van. Still gets around.

Flip fronts where all the rage. Nearly every '57 Chev had one.

Anyone know what happened to the Dodge Daytona that used to get around Sydney in the 80's?
It was on the cover of SM and it can be seen in the background of a couple of scenes in Running On Empty.

Does anyone have any specs / pics of the one HO to Go street machine built car? My cousin has owned it for many years. I think he bought it from the guy that won it.

Ovakill must also get a honourable mention. One of my other favourites was a deep metallic maroon HK Premier with hot 350 chev, GTS guards and a very well done conversion to 4 square headlights taken form a Leyland, I can not remember what it was titled but this car was the inspiration behind my own HK Premier and 350/Turbo 400 combo.

while it's not from the 80's, i reckon Ed Brodie's MR HJ is the one car that kicked off most of the trends we still see today in elite street machining, i wish he'd put it back together.
