Unhappy Totaly dead battery -how to get in???

Yeah tis a camry(2002/3) - but presume the problem is the same. Will not open even with the key. can access boot -but the seats release is on the inside.
No doors open -can't climb through the boot, doubt I can access bonnet release
open to all suggestions. -preferably without smashing glass.

If you get under the car, can you access the power cable bolted to the starter?

If so attach a charger to it and then attach earth to anyplace on the chassis. Let it sit for a while before attempting to start.

Hook a jumper pack or jumper cables to the body and positive of the starter motor. Then try the remote If its accessible from underneath on jack stands. Safety first.

I would have thought the key would manually open the door on an 03 Camry?

Hi. One would hope so, BUT after fifteen years of using a remote to unlock the doors this toyota like many I see will have the key barrels in the door handles seized. A good spray with CRC/WD40 etc etc etc may bring them back to life and you may find that the drivers door will only lock the car while the passengers door will only unlock the car. Cheers MD

WD40 and a bit of hand strength should get the key turning.

Ask one of your grandkids to lend a hand

Careful of snapping the key.

It can happen.

I don't think that will work as you won't have a circuit from number plate light unless the lights are turned on.

One would have to wonder how stupid you would have to be to design a car in this way.

You couldn't open the door with the key and pull the bonnet catch lever?

I locked my AU and then disconnected the battery and closed the bonnet, realised the key didn't open the drivers door
so i jacked it up and got under it and "reached around" and while pressing the central locking button and tapping the battery cables i got it open, i disconnected both cables so it was PITA but i got in

also jumper leads to ground and starter or alternator positive should get it powered up

note to self: if i disconnect the battery again i'll leave the bonnet ajar and/or door unlocked

Take the door lock barrel out and get it matched to the key - then you have no worries about forgetting the other things, otherwise, it will bite you on the a*se again - I'm talking from experience .

Probably but does it disarm the alarm? I can unlock my WRX but then the alarm goes off.

I can turn that off with a key in the engine bay after getting a nice blast but pretty sure I can't start the car anyway

Sounds like someone replaced the ignition barrel at some stage but didn't think it would ever be necessary to match the door lock, or at least keep a key.

When Ford used those Tibbe locks, Ea to AU, every single Tibbe key would lock the door, but only the right one would unlock it. I got reminded of this just the other month when I learnt my AU does not have matching door and ignition locks anymore!

True for some cars but still better than breaking trims to get into the car I would have thought..
I don't think an 03 Camry has an audible alarm, you can enter/start our Prado just by using the key.
