Default Remanufacture Vehicles

Does Ford still hold and enforce intellectual property rights on its superceded models from years ago? How do aftermarket companies manufacture non-genuine parts/panels for cars? Lets say if someone re-manufactured brand new vehicles in the form/specification of an old falcon, like an EF for instance?

Well i dont think it would comply with all the new saftey/greenie laws so i dont see how GovCo could let this happen?

There are other threads about this...

You can build your own car, there is nothing stopping you from doing it.
It has its own category and as long as you jump through the hoops its all legal.
How do you think kit cars are registered?

Lets say they are not to be sold here, but as affordable luxo transport in another country where greenies don't exist and safety is not an issue.

But is manufacturing a design that is not yours a form of piracy? Whats stopping someone with connections to cheap manufacturing overseas making cheap knockoffs of all the latest vehicles.

Dynacorp (I think its called) who made the mustang, camaro bodies (and soon to be XR and XB coupe bodies on behalf of the guy in brissy) was being sued by Ford in the USA a while back as they were using the Mustang and Ford name in their sales.
the Mustang shell wasnt an authorised product and therefor couldnt carry the Mustang name.

The design wasnt the issue....

I know the issue was resolved, but i dont know what the outcome was.

Objectives

The principal objectives of Ford Motor Company's licensing program are to: 1) increase the legal protection and reduce wrongful usage of Ford trademarks; and 2) improve the quality of products carrying the Ford brands, thereby enhancing the image of these brands.


Background

In planning its Restoration Parts Licensing Program, Ford obtained Voice of the Customer input from the Automotive Restoration Marketing Organization (ARMO) and from restoration parts manufacturers.

The Restoration Parts Licensing Program was announced on Sept. 29, 1993 and endorsed by the Board of Directors of ARMO at the November 1993 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Convention.

The licensing program provides benefits to consumers, to licensees and to Ford. Consumers benefit from the availability of high quality, authentic parts for their vintage cars and trucks, licensees benefit from their use of the "Official Licensed Product" logo and the policing of unlicensed competition, and Ford benefits from the trademark protection and enhanced brand images. At present, there are over 9,000 restoration parts displaying the Ford Motor Company "Official Licensed Product" logo.


Quality Assurance

Restoration Parts Licensees must successfully complete a quality assurance survey, and their products must meet Ford quality standards as well as all federal and state safety regulations. Also, to assist in the monitoring of on-going production quality, the "master" restoration part samples are returned to the licensee after approval and used as quality benchmarks.


Information Packet

This package includes names, addresses, and phone/fax numbers of all Ford Restoration Parts Licensees as of December 2007, a listing of licensees by vehicle line, and a summary of the licensed products of each licensee.
