this i dont see what the big deal is about making a CAI, just get a XR6T Snorkel and a k&n panel filter

So you can prototype, and mould a plastic one and make a profit for $275? Id like to see that.
You were the one that was trying to sell an intake pipe that you made from bits of steel you found in a bin for $200 a pop.

They were $200 on the buy which is good value if you add up the man hours you are spending on yours. But as you say FREE is good, so keep plodding away with it as it looks good at the moment just remember the purpose of a CAI is to get COLD air into the induction system so the sooner you get a lid on it the better the results will be. also AUs are slow learners and it takes up to 100 or so Ks for the ecu to rethink the air flow and learn to adjust its self
Regards Whoosha
P.S I have 2 Arcon boxes left at the GB price :

Update of my intake, welded it on last night, excuse the welds ran out of argon so i had to use the stick welder doh!!!!!!

This is the trial fittment i did before welding it

This is it welded with the welds grinded back, wont go any further grinding becuase it will get polished laters

It works very well and in fact very repsonsive mod i have done

Here is a pic of my intake desgin, still going over it and finding the best solution to it

will have it done hopefully next week, when i can afford couple of hose clamps

cheers matt

A nice powder coating would smarten it up a fair bit.Good work.

Can the pod still be taken off without moving anything else,I see it sits almost flush.I guess it depends how much pipe is in the filter housing. If its hitting a nice silicone joiner where the weld is would look good.

It can be taken off, bit of a pain in the *** though, but i do it the hard way becuase i dont want to break the fibre glass

i have to shorten the bend where the filter connects a little other wise pain in the *** to get the filter off, after i shorten it will be easy to put it on, rather then pulling the whole thing out

other wise works preety good, ill end up getting the intake polished up eventually

where the pipe goes through the glass, there are mounting holes there, so ill make up a plate and mount it there, stick the pipe through the plate then ill measure it up and tig weld the pipe to the plate, then ill cut the pod side of the pipe and silicone join it there so its easier to remove is need be,

i can buy bends and that off ebay, preety good ones as well,

I love reading these forums, especially when the arguments start. Refering to fdr906 and the monty. I personally would be listenin to monty as he seems pretty switched on with his 6's. I'm not a 6 cyl fan, go for a drive in a v8 and you will understand. Fdr906 i'm sure your new intake will look gr8 (apart from the welding and the gringing), but will it give you any performance at all. All the joins and welds, how much penetration from your welds do you have , that can distrupt you air flow cant it?

there is no argument here mate, i will be after xmas for my birthday in january be going for a dyno run with the intake and extractors( possibly the new stainless set) and have a look, plus it is for me to see what is letting the car down,

like i said i havent finished the pipe work there and the weldes wont be seen, its a tempory like that to see what it does,

anyways here is what i have there, i didnt realise a horn had some lines or something running out of it

That picture is actually very helpful for me in another problem! Evaporative emissions charcoal canister is my informed guess. Looking at an AUIII XR8 which is making a lot of ticking noise in that area...
