Default Ford Mondeo Intercooler issues

Hi,

I posted last week about having a few issues with my car, these being cruise control, heated seating not working and engine malfunction light.

Upon the advice of this forum I took it in to get checked out and the mechanics noted the following fault codes:

P003A17 - Turbo / Supercharger boost control
P212100 - Throttle pedal position switch circuit range error

The mechanic noted that they found the inter cooler hose to be soft and leaking and quoted me $650 for replace and install of the hose, then further costs for the P212100 error code if I choose to have this looked into.

I am willing to pay this cost however I wanted some time to weigh up my options.

Could it be done cheaper elsewhere? Is it something I could potentially do myself even? Or maybe get a mechanically minded friend to do? Would a hose like this one be acceptable for the job?

Further does anyone have any ideas about the second fault code mentioned?

Thanks for any help you can provide

probably not the pedal position switch

should be easy enough, though if it's not the hose it could be electrical.

There's more than one hose, drawing here:

The short one would take the longest to fit, but I've no experience with it.

Hmm, I guess if there's more than one hose, I better be sure I find the one the mechanic was talking about and find the right replacement too.

Starting to wonder if I'm better off forking out the $650 just to make sure the job's done properly. I've had some bad experience buying 3rd party parts from eBay lately also.

I guess I'd be asking the mechanic how he knows the hose is leaking, and that would probably be the end of the relationship

Well put. Haha. I'll write down the exact wording on the receipt "Rubber hose to inter cooler soft and leaking."

The short hose might be called 'hose from turbocharger' and the long one 'hose to intercooler'.

Maybe you can hear hissing or have reduced power?

Lets know how you go.

I have been listening to it, I've noticed maybe a delayed power, like I'd put my foot down and the turbo would take a second before it kicked in.

Also it has this strange laggy behaviour at around 40kms/hr in drive. It like revs a few times like it trying to find the right gear maybe? That's pretty new too.

Okay, so now that I take the engine cover off it's so obvious.. would you know which hose this is by any chance. I'd have no problems having a go at replacing this as it's clearly very accessible.

Lower part of A is it?

you need to remove the lower under body tray, and take off the lower lip cover to get to what you need.

Hi Cobrin based off what I can tell, I think it's the 6C646A hose as labelled in that diagram. It's definitely accessible from under the bonnet.

Ah okay - Charge air cooler outlet pipe, this one goes to the inlet manifold after the intercooler. Should be easy enough to do with minimal tooling. That is if it's the culprit.

After further inspection, I'm starting to wonder if the mechanic was giving me the wrong info.. I mean, I've found where the intercooler is on my car and the hose that's decaying is no where near it. As can hopefully be seen in the picture I attached earlier the hose connects from the rear of the motor and over the top into the same place the oil goes into.

What's that hose called?

I don't see an image in your post #9. Now In the quote above I see a link to a gmail advertisement.
Forum does not enable me to post images, so could be an issue there.

Yeah a pic will end all confusion, get the direct image link of the pic and when posting in here you'll see the formatting tools above your message. Select the 'Insert Image' (picture of a mountain) and then paste the link in the opening box.

use postimage.org to host the pic and get the direct link image (must end in the file extension aka .jpg) and good etiquette isn't uploading an image that's 4mb in size, just saying...

Whoops, I've been assuming this whole time that you guys could see the picture I linked to. I'll try again. That postimage.org site seems very nifty.

I've circled the area of concern. Cheers!
