Red face Chirp, chirp, chirp. Harmonic balancer squealing noise.

Chirp, chirp, chirp. Harmonic balancer squealing noise. Could this be the front seal? Having taken off the fan belt, and starting the engine, I get this squealing sound from the front main pulley (harmonic balancer). At this stage this is the only thing turning, Each short squeal equals 1 revolution of the engine. Or could this be something else? Any thoughts? I thank you in advance.

Any lateral movement in the balancer?

I had this problem about a month ago.

Had to replace the balancer.

V8 or I6? The V8 cam synchronisers do this as mentioned above.

Kind regards George1957.

Hi undertow, It is V8 5.0 Ltr, and it was the cam sensor. 1cc of oil and problem fixed. It was my cheapest repair ever. Many thanks for your reply, it was much appreciated.

Kindest regards,

George1957.

Hi russellw, Thank you so much for your reply. It tuned out to be the cam sensor. 1cc of oil around the rotor fixed the squeal instantly. Thanks again.
Kindest regards, George1957.
