Default Oils aint Oils

Hi Guys

Thought i would inform you all of some research i have done recently. From my understanding true fully synthetic oils are classed as group IV base stocks. Anything under that is classed as a mineral oil. In japan and Germany anything below group IV is mineral. I contacted Castrol today to inquire in regards to their Premium Edge product. The tech informed me that the Castrol 10w-60 is a group IV synthetic but he could not disclose if the other viscosity's in the range where group IV's. In other words they are sold as fully synthetic and are not. I also contacted another brand and the same thing. All of their fully synthetics were group III or Group III and IV blends. If you want the best oils for your car then dont go by the label "fully synthetic." Contact the manufacturer and ask if its a group IV or higher and if its not then its not fully synthetic.
